Responsible for the overall operation of the Circle K Ranch and the administration of the Equestrian Programs and supporting services at YMCA Camp Kern. Requirements

  • A 2-year degree or applicable experience is preferred.
  • CPR/AED, First Aid, and Oxygen required within first 60 days of employment and kept current.
  • Minimum 2 years of progressive experience in barn management, riding instruction, and equestrian staff supervision preferred.
  • Skills in barn management, strong organization, comfortable around a large herd, teamwork, and enthusiasm are required.
  • Must have a working knowledge of horses and care needed.
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license, insurable drivers record according to the YMCA’s insurance carriers, and be able to provide own transportation to travel for business meetings, training events, YMCA site visits, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Provides strategic leadership for the long-term growth and sustainability of Circle K Ranch programs.
  • Identifies and develops new equestrian programming opportunities, partnerships, and outreach initiatives to expand participation and revenue.
  • Contributes to long-range planning for herd sustainability, facility improvements, and program expansion.
  • Oversees care and management of a herd of approximately 30-50 horses.
  • Plans, evaluates, and implements as aspects of the Equestrian program in accordance with YMCA of the USA and YMCA of Greater Dayton guidelines.
  • Develops, implements, and monitors department budget to ensure fiscal responsibility throughout the year.
  • Generates revenue and maintains expenses to stay within budgetary restraints.
  • Creates, develops, and implements high quality programming.
  • Hires, trains, monitors, and evaluated appropriate full and part-time equestrian staff, weekend staff, camp counselors, barn staff, lesson instructors, and others within the Equestrian Department.
  • Assists Equestrian Staff with increasing program potential, personal growth within the YMCA, commitment to Camp Kern, and responsibility to high quality operations.
  • Serve as an effective member of the Camp Kern professional Staff team through relationship building and communication.
  • Holds effective staff meetings
  • Fills staff vacancies in accordance with association guidelines
  • Established procedures for scheduling and finding substitutes
  • Supervises, directs, and coordinates all aspects of equestrian programming including lesson programs, ranch camp, winter ranch camp, parent/child programs, trail rides
  • Maintains accurate records for the department, facility, and staff.
  • Develops effective relationships with current groups and solicits new guests on a year-round basis
  • Provides oversight for herd management including feeding protocols, veterinary and farrier coordination, conditioning, training, workload monitoring, and seasonal herd planning
  • Maintains vet and farrier records as well as lesson records, waivers, and other documentation
  • Ensures the barn is clean and safe for guests and horses
  • Manages and participates with the cleanliness, efficiency, and safety of the barn and the overall care of the horses including daily cleaning, grooming, feeding, and watering, as well as medical care and training.
  • Communicates and ensures strong relations with our vendors, boarders, and guests.
  • Develop and carry out marketing for all Circle K programs through information distribution, communicating with the community, etc.
  • Supports and participates in all equestrian programs including but not limited to the lesson program, ranch camp, parent/child weekends, and horse shows.
  • Inspects, all equipment used for safety hazards, damage or wear and repairs or replaces as needed.
  • Prepares the Equestrian Department for 100% compliance during the ACA annual visit.
  • Relate to branch board by attending all meetings and works on assigned committees.
  • Communicates to direct supervisor any concerns or incidents that may need follow-up.
  • Communicates any suggestions to improve the programs within the equestrian area.
