About The Position

Student and Campus Life (SCL) inspires transformation in all Cornell students on their journey of individual, academic and personal evolution. Athletics and Physical Education offers a diverse program of physical and outdoor education, recreational services, intramural sports and intercollegiate athletic competition, plus Wellness programs for faculty and staff and fitness centers for the entire Cornell community. The Equipment Operations unit supports the day-to-day operations of 37 varsity sports, physical education, wellness, and faculty/staff recreation. The unit is responsible for the purchase, maintenance, and repair of equipment, the issuing of team gear and recreational equipment, and the laundering of uniforms and workout apparel. The Equipment Operations unit works to support the Department’s vision to win together, inspire wellbeing, and love Cornell. The Equipment Coordinator/Material Handler coordinates equipment needs for assigned athletic teams and supports the day-to-day operations of the Teagle equipment cage for the issuing of all equipment for Physical Education classes, Wellness classes, Intramural sports, and Fitness Centers. Responsibilities include monitoring the issue room window to supply customers with appropriate items, preparing and issuing equipment and uniforms for intercollegiate teams, assisting with laundry operations, sewing team uniforms (minor repairs, names, numbers, flags, etc.), minor repair and recondition equipment, unlocking buildings, and assisting with the administrative duties performed in each assigned area. In addition, this position runs the weekend laundry operations in Schoellkopf Hall. The Equipment Coordinator/Material Handler also will assist the Lead Equipment Manager with the daily oversight of student workers during their shift. Please note: The normal schedule for this position is Thursday through Monday from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. Days and hours of operation are subject to change during the summer and inter-session periods. Occasional travel will be required for attendance in training sessions (on and off campus). This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship. This is position is part of the United Auto Workers (UAW) union. The current rate of pay is listed in the collective bargaining agreement here: https://hr.cornell.edu/sites/default/files/2023-04/uaw.pdf and starts at $24.38/hour. Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent and at least 1 year of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • CPR and First Aid certification, or the ability to become certified within 30-60 days of start date.
  • Certification for Blood Borne Pathogen Training or the ability to become certified within 30-60 days of start date.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Experience doing laundry and prior knowledge related to laundering procedures (detergents to use, washing temperatures, choice of machines, and identification of articles being laundered).
  • Ability to lift, move, and carry (pushing and pulling) 25-50 pounds.
  • Proficient with computer programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior knowledge of a large variety of athletic equipment.
  • Certification in Athletic Equipment Management.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Experience working in Athletics, especially collegiate Athletics.
  • Prior knowledge and experience with team issue procedures and NCAA rules.

Responsibilities
