If weather conditions warrant, employees can be required to work extended hours and/or shifts to assist with snow clearing duties. Wastewater Management oversees all aspects of wastewater functions, including the construction, operation, maintenance of the City’s sanitary and storm systems, and responding to customer inquiries regarding sewage and storm drainage service charges. The System Maintenance Team is split up into five district crews, as well as a night crew. Our crew(s) on standby will respond on weekends and holidays to emergencies. Broadly, our crews are dispatched on routine routes to clean sewer and storm facilities. Specifically, as an Equipment Operator II, you will:

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate
  • Three (3) years of general labor experience which must include two (2) years of experience operating light to medium sized equipment.
  • Additional appropriate experience may be substituted for the minimum education requirements.
  • Requires a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL "B") with appropriate endorsements at the time of application.
  • Requires a CDL Tanker Endorsement within 6 months of hire.
  • Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
  • Applicants for commercial driving positions must demonstrate proficiency in the English language.
  • Commercial drivers must be able to do the following in English: Converse with the general public Understand highway traffic signs and signals Respond to official inquiries Make entries on reports and records

Responsibilities

  • Operate specialized vehicles, such as catch basin cleaners (VAC truck), sewer jet cleaners, and snowplows (Samsara Dash Camera installed on all vehicles).
  • Perform pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections.
  • Perform basic vehicle maintenance (greasing, etc.).
  • Act as the single operator responsible for completing assigned routes.
  • Be responsible for maintaining safety and safe work habits.
  • Assist and oversee routine truck maintenance, moving of containers, and assisting with sewer and storm facility clearing.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
