About The Position

The Equipment Operator – Skid Steer plays a key role in field operations, working closely with crew members, contractors, and customers. This position is responsible for safely operating skid steer equipment and related machinery to support project completion.

Requirements

  • Familiarity with DOT and OSHA regulations.
  • Physically capable of sustained manual labor in all weather conditions.
  • Strong communication, mechanical aptitude, and job planning skills.
  • Willingness to work long hours, weekends, holidays, and travel as required.
  • Skilled with hand and power tools (e.g., hammers, drills, grease guns).
  • Reliable, punctual, and professional in varied work environments.
  • Ability to work respectfully with diverse individuals across all levels.
  • Maintains confidentiality in all job-related matters.

Responsibilities

  • Operates a skid steer safely and efficiently on job sites (e.g., parking lots, highways, streets).
  • Provides job site cleanup using various skid steer attachments (e.g., milling head, sweeper, bucket).
  • Uses a finishing/detail attachment on the skid steer to smooth and level milled or prepared surfaces as needed.
  • Clears loose particles left by milling or broom equipment; keeps work surfaces clean.
  • Mills around manholes and valves that larger machines can’t reach; marks these locations as needed.
  • Assists with milling machine operations by communicating with operators, removing debris, changing carbide teeth, and greasing machinery.
  • Supports cleanup crews using shovels, brooms, or other tools to clear milled surfaces.
  • May assist with traffic control setup, flagging, equipment loading/unloading, and manual labor tasks.
  • Operates and maintains additional heavy equipment (e.g., broom tractor, backhoe, water truck) as trained.
  • Performs routine maintenance on skid steers and other equipment (e.g., greasing, oil changes, filter replacements).
  • Reports maintenance or repair needs to Foreman, Shop Manager, or Mechanics.
  • Ensures all tools, vehicles, and equipment are cleaned and stored properly.
  • Adheres to OSHA and company safety standards and reports any safety concerns.
  • Maintains the ability to travel 100% to various job sites, including extended overnight stays.
  • Maintains reliable, regular attendance and completes assigned projects.
