About The Position

Do you have experience with operating heavy construction equipment? Spend your days maintaining, repairing, and installing various wastewater distribution throughout Sarasota County. Operate heavy, intermediate, and specialized construction equipment: excavators, backhoes, end loaders, skid steers, trenchers, tapping machines, boring machines, horizontal directional drill/boring, vacuum trucks, sewer-flushing devices, and other related equipment. Complete utility work in maintaining, repairing, installing, construction, flushing, flow testing, and disinfection to the utility’s potable and reclaimed water distribution systems, wastewater; gravity, vacuum, and pressurized sewer collection systems, their appurtenances and all public service laterals. Perform complete underground utility inspection, discovery, and locate the utility’s potable and reclaimed water distribution systems, their appurtenances, and all public service laterals. Perform right-of-way MOT and all restorations relating to complete utility maintenance and repairs. Work Hours: 40 Hours Per Week 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. On-Call Required.

Requirements

  • A High School Diploma or its equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of experience in the operation and routine maintenance with heavy equipment in operations, maintenance, repair, and construction of water distribution.
  • A valid Florida Class "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Tanker endorsements or the ability to obtain within six (6) months from the date of hire. (Paid for by the County!)
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds.
  • Subject to Passing Substance Screening: This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five (5) years.
