This position will operate in a hybrid work environment, 1 day per week in the office (Philadelphia, PA). OVERVIEW: This role is responsible for supporting the Estate and Trust Settlement Group with a range of tax preparation and administrative tasks to facilitate the settlement of estates and related trusts. This role reports into the Director of Estate and Trust Settlement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or solid trust & estate paralegal experience.
  • A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in trust and estate settlement administration, including the preparation and/or review of federal estate tax returns, state inheritance and estate tax.
  • Experience assisting counsel and tax preparers in collecting information needed to prepare returns and experience in reviewing Fiduciary returns (e.g. Tax returns, Gift Tax returns, Federal Estate Tax returns, and State Inheritance and Estate Tax returns).

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and address tax notices.
  • Research various estate, gift, and trust related tax issues including generation-skipping tax issues.
  • All facets of trusts and estate administration, including identification of assets, coordination of valuation, appraisal and collection of assets, identification of obligations and administration expenses, monitoring filing deadlines, preparation of spreadsheets and client communication.
  • Ability to interpret wills and trusts to assure proper implementation of document terms.
  • Understanding of fiduciary accounting principles.
  • Provide expert analysis of our acts as trustee or executor on matters including, but not limited to, account fundings, receipts and disbursements.
  • Ability to perform death tax reviews and flag potential tax or administration related issues for relationship teams.
  • Collaborate with relationship teams and provide advice regarding post-death administration of trusts.
  • Liaise with Operations, Tax and Relationship Managers to ensure proper tax and statement reporting for accounts impacted by a client’s death.
  • Support the estate settlement function with special projects as assigned including collection of assets, payment of estate expenses, statement reconciliation, assembly, and analysis of information necessary for completion of estate inventory, death tax returns, audits of tax returns and court accountings.
  • Active engagement in department-specific and firm-wide initiatives to expand capabilities, create solutions to unmet business needs, improve client experience, or enhance processes.
  • Ability and willingness to contribute to the advancement of team, office, and growth of the estate settlement practice at Glenmede.
