About The Position

The executive director will provide overall leadership and general management for generational wealth activities. The generational wealth strategy seeks to expand opportunity to build wealth through expanding access to homeownership. Executive director responsibilities include managing the team, reporting to an independent board of directors, ensuring effective operations, implementing the strategy, securing funding, management of a service agreement and related deliverables, and tracking progress and impact in the community. The executive director leads the generational wealth activities toward an average of $10M+ in annual investments in this transformative initiative.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or 4 years of equivalent directly related experience
  • In addition, at least 15 years leadership and management experience in community development, financial services, real estate, community-based business, nonprofit, real estate, housing policy or related field, including 2 years in strategic leadership capacity, with expertise to influence policies and procedures for operating an effective and efficient organization
  • Knowledgeable of nonprofit management, public-private partnerships, and best practices for effective administration
  • Leadership qualities and experience appropriate to interact with senior executives and community leaders
  • Proven ability to have positive influence across all sectors, with diverse constituencies and communities, to deliver results
  • Knowledge of real estate, home ownership and philanthropic sectors as well as a working knowledge of corporate processes
  • Demonstrates alignment with ESL’s Core Values, mission, vision, and purpose to help our community thrive and prosper

Nice To Haves

  • MBA or other Masters degree in business, real estate, economics, urban planning or housing policy
  • At least 15 years community development, home ownership, housing market, or directly related experience, including 5 years in strategic leadership capacity, with expertise to influence policies and procedures for operating an effective and efficient organization
  • Experience leading a new and rapid growing organization
  • Experience raising funds for $10Ms+ capital investments
  • Experience leveraging philanthropy with private investments to enable large scale capital, real estate, or related activities

Responsibilities

  • Organization Leadership Build and maintain a high performance team with well-balanced skill sets and competencies as needed to execute on strategy
  • Lead the raising and deployment of hundreds of millions of dollars in collective investments and leverage needed to enable homeownership access for all in greater Rochester at scale
  • Manage and execute a strategy to advance homeownership opportunities and access to generational wealth for segments of our population that have been denied such access historically
  • Establish and manage partnerships with relevant stakeholders across real estate, banking, non-profit, government and philanthropic sectors
  • Ensure implementation to address the demand for homeownership, the supply of attainable units for purchase, affordably maintaining homeownership, and investments to ensure community home values appreciate
  • Represent generational wealth initiative in the community and champion the critical cause, investments, and work needed
  • Effectively manage relationships with funders, and other key stakeholders to ensure confidence and sustained engagement in the initiative
  • Operational Effectiveness Implement policies, processes, and procedures necessary to effectively operate
  • Oversee strategic planning process and reporting to ensure efforts and investments drive optimal impact
  • Set clear metrics and report progress on initiatives to key stakeholders
  • Fiscal Prepare and manage budgets. Implement financial control procedures
  • Oversee the development of monthly financial reports
  • Governance Execute the decisions of the independent board of directors promptly and accurately
  • Oversee all required administration including meeting agendas, preparation of minutes, reports and correspondence
  • Effectively manage all legal, regulatory, and governance requirements
  • Ensure effective execution of all requirements of established Service Agreement in accordance with the guidance and authorization of independent board of directors
