About The Position

The YMCA of Metropolitan Fort Worth is looking for a new leader to join the team and support the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Part of the YMCA of Metropolitan Fort Worth, YMCA Camp Carter is a year-round camp located in the heart of Fort Worth, Texas. Situated on 360+ acres along the Trinity River just minutes from downtown, campers enjoy a country feel while staying close to home. Amenities available include challenge course elements, air-conditioned duplex cabins, a swimming pool, Equestrian Center, athletic fields, biking, archery, riflery, skeet shooting, basketball court, canoeing/kayaking, volleyball court, dining hall, retreat center, and more. Camp Carter is seeking an experienced Executive to provide cause-driven leadership. Under the direction of the District Executive Director, the Executive Director will be responsible for providing leadership and oversight to the total operations of Camp Carter, including: Day Camp, Overnight Camp, Outdoor Education, Groups & Retreats, Equestrian Center Operations, Family Camp, marketing, events, and facilities. In addition, they will are responsible for growing community impact, including volunteer development, fundraising, diversity and inclusion initiatives, collaborations with community agencies, monitoring operating budgets and strategic planning. YMCA Camp Carter has a fund development budget of approximately $350,000 including grants, government funding, contributory income, etc. It is an expectation that the candidate live on property at YMCA Camp Carter, where housing will be provided/included. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience) in recreation, education, business or related field.
  • 5+ years of senior leadership experience in camp, youth development, or nonprofit operations.
  • Proven success in financial development, strategic planning, and board/volunteer engagement.
  • Strong background in risk management and ACA accreditation standards.
  • Exceptional communication, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills.
  • A passion for camp life and a commitment to the YMCA mission.
  • CPR and First Aid certifications are required.

Nice To Haves

  • YMCA Team Leader or Multi-team/Branch Leader certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and oversight to the total operations of Camp Carter, including: Day Camp, Overnight Camp, Outdoor Education, Groups & Retreats, Equestrian Center Operations, Family Camp, marketing, events, and facilities.
  • Growing community impact, including volunteer development, fundraising, diversity and inclusion initiatives, collaborations with community agencies, monitoring operating budgets and strategic planning.
  • Develop and execute a long-term plan for camp growth, sustainability, and community impact.
  • Ensure all programs - overnight camp, day camp, outdoor education, retreats, and equestrian - meet YMCA and ACA standards.
  • Drive annual fundraising success, cultivate donor relationships, and manage a multi-million-dollar operating budget.
  • Work with a passionate board of multi-skilled professionals, that share in your passion for camp, to drive relevancy, outreach, and support within the community.
  • Recruit, mentor, and empower a high-performing staff team that thrives on collaboration and creativity.
  • Build strong partnerships with schools, nonprofits, and civic leaders to expand camp's reach and relevance.
