About The Position

The Exercise Physiologist is responsible for setting up, conducting, and monitoring exercise and chemical stress tests while collecting physiological data including EKG and vital signs. This role supports safe, effective therapeutic exercise sessions, provides education to individuals with cardiac disease or those at high risk, and ensures accurate documentation in alignment with provider orders, clinical assessments, and organizational protocols. The specialist also plays a critical role in recognizing and responding to emergency situations using established emergency procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in health science or related field
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification
  • Clinical stress testing or cardiac rehabilitation internship/observation experience
  • Strong ECG interpretation skills
  • Ability to guide and motivate patients through therapeutic exercise
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
  • High attention to detail for accurate physiological data recording
  • Ability to remain calm and decisive during emergency situations
  • Commitment to patient safety, education, and health improvement

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) Exercise Specialist certification
  • At least one year of experience in a related field

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate knowledge of indications and protocols for various cardiac stress tests.
  • Conduct diagnostic cardiac exercise stress tests for symptomatic cardiac patients, including: Treadmill stress tests (with or without echocardiogram follow-up) Nuclear stress tests Pharmacologic stress tests
  • Collaborate effectively with cardiac sonographers, nuclear medicine technologists, and registered nurses.
  • Follow cardiovascular protocols for patient assessment, preparation, ECG monitoring, test quality, and post-test recovery.
  • Communicate promptly with the Cardiologist regarding significant ECG changes or other abnormal findings.
  • Document all necessary data and observations to support physician interpretation.
  • Prepare, clean, and maintain exercise and testing equipment; report repair needs promptly.
  • Design, implement, and evaluate individualized exercise prescriptions with appropriate documentation.
  • Provide patient education—independently and alongside registered nurses—related to cardiac health, lifestyle change, and disease management.
  • Develop and support programs promoting cardiovascular disease recognition, prevention, and treatment.
  • Ensure accurate billing and pre-approval processes for services rendered.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized exercise environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
