About The Position

The part-time Exhibit Educator is responsible for the supervision of all guest interactive areas and for providing detailed information on our aquatic inventory when needed. Some involvement with camp and classes may be needed, while assisting with community outreach, animal ambassadors, overnight camps, Glass Bottom Boat, and educational ventures into the public-school system are optional. This position reports to the Director of Education.

Requirements

  • Ability to bend, stoop, and kneel in order to access stations and assist guests.
  • Must be able to stand for periods of 7-8 hours while directing guests.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.

Nice To Haves

  • Excellent public speaking skills.
  • Outgoing and friendly personality.
  • 1-2 years’ experience in public speaking or Biology/Marine Science BS/BA degree.
  • Ability to teach educational classes about marine science/ aquatic life in a classroom setting.

Responsibilities

  • Staff the Friendship Flats touch exhibits (stingrays), Discovery Center touch exhibits (invertebrates and jellies), and Powerwalk as needed.
  • Interprets basic animal information at a variety of stations throughout the Aquarium.
  • Presents developed programs to a variety of educational audiences.
  • Provides assistance and way finding information for Aquarium guests.
  • Entertains guests of all ages while providing educational information.
  • Responsible for maintaining the safety of Aquarium guests and animals.
  • Maintains the cleanliness of all interpretive areas.
  • Prepares and maintains interpretive areas for daily visitors.
  • Conduct behind-the-scenes tours at the Aquarium.
  • Narrate dive shows and animal feedings.
  • Understanding the aquatic life in the various exhibits, including the proper handling of the animals in the touch areas.
  • Ensure guest and animal safety by monitoring touch areas for guest behavior, and relaying handling methods to guests.
  • Ability to operate a point of sale.
  • Greeting and interacting with the guests.
  • Assisting camps and programs as needed.
  • Assisting other areas throughout the Aquarium as needed.
  • Presents developed programs to a variety of educational audiences.
