The Calvert Marine Museum is seeking a Summer Education Intern (Exhibit Interpreter) to join its Education Team. Interns engage the public and school groups through hands-on educational programs delivered in museum galleries, outdoor spaces, and aboard historic maritime vessels. The role supports curriculum-based programs related to paleontology, maritime history, and estuary biology, and assists with special events that enhance accessibility and community engagement. Successful candidates will have strong communication and customer service skills and enjoy working with children and diverse audiences. Responsibilities include assisting with educational programs, tours, field trips, camps, and outreach activities, as well as helping ensure visitor safety and exhibit security. Assists with school tours, youth programs, adult programs, and special events, and assists with planning and implementation of educational programs. Responsible for the security of the exhibits and the safety of the visitors. Position reports to technical supervisors Essential Job Functions Assists with conducting tours and programs on the lighthouses, oyster house, discovery room, marsh walk, small craft shed, and other Museum exhibits as needed. Works with educational programs including but not limited to field trips, summer camps, and outreach programs. Oversees security of the exhibits, conduct of visitors and general upkeep of exhibit areas. Other Job Duties (Duties listed are not intended to be all inclusive nor to limit duties that might reasonably be assigned.) Demonstrates maritime skills as needed. Performs related work as required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (These are pre-employment KSA that apply only to Essential Job Functions.) Knowledge of— Museum's three themes, i.e., paleontology, estuarine biology and maritime history. Ability to— Communicate effectively to large groups. Maintain neat appearance. Conduct tours. Climb steep ladders. Stand and walk for long periods of time. Deal effectively with the public. Required Qualifications (Note: Any acceptable combination of education, training and relevant experience that provides the above knowledge, abilities and skills may be substituted on a full-time year for year basis.) Training and/or Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent. Experience: Three months working with the public. Licenses or Certificates: None Special Requirements: Subject to background investigation. Must be 18 years of age or older. Physical Demands: Requires long periods of standing, frequent walking indoors, repeated bending, crouching, stooping, stretching or reaching; recurring lifting of objects up to 49 pounds. Unusual Demands: Subject to work evenings and weekends.
