About The Position

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Expanded Functions Dental Assistant to join our dynamic dental practice. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in dental assisting and will be responsible for providing exceptional support to our dental team while ensuring a positive experience for our patients. The Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) plays a critical clinical role, supporting high-quality patient care through advanced assisting functions and exceptional chairside support. In addition to performing all duties of a Dental Assistant, the EFDA is trained and authorized to complete expanded clinical functions. This position contributes directly to clinical efficiency, patient experience, and practice growth by supporting providers before, during, and after dental procedures while maintaining the highest standards of safety, professionalism, and care delivery.

Requirements

  • Active Virginia Radiology License (Required)
  • EFDA training and certification consistent with Indiana regulations (Required)
  • Experience working in a professional office setting (Required)
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills
  • Ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient safety
  • Reliable transportation

Nice To Haves

  • Chairside experience in a general dental practice (Preferred)
  • Experience with Dentrix or similar dental practice management software (Preferred)
  • Coronal Polishing Certification (Encouraged)

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for dental treatment by escorting them to the operatory, ensuring comfort, and reviewing required documentation.
  • Assist the doctor during dental procedures with efficiency, accuracy, and professionalism.
  • Anticipate provider needs and maintain a smooth clinical flow throughout procedures.
  • Chart clinical notes accurately and in real time during treatment.
  • Educate patients on oral health, treatment plans, and post-procedure care instructions.
  • Perform expanded clinical functions as permitted by state law, including but not limited to:
  • Placing restorations
  • Applying sealants
  • Coronal polishing (if certified)
  • Applying topical anesthetics
  • Take diagnostic radiographs efficiently and accurately.
  • Ensure all expanded functions are performed under appropriate supervision and in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Stock and prepare operatories with instruments and materials prior to each procedure.
  • Maintain strict adherence to CDC and OSHA infection control and sterilization protocols.
  • Clean, disinfect, and reset operatories after each patient.
  • Monitor clinical areas throughout the day to ensure cleanliness, organization, and compliance.
  • Remain aware of daily schedules and proactively adjust to changes, additions, or emergencies.
  • Support efficient patient flow to maximize provider productivity and minimize patient wait times.
  • Assist with scheduling follow-up and accepted treatment as directed.
  • Work collaboratively with doctors, hygienists, and administrative team members to support a positive and professional team culture.
  • Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and continuing education opportunities.
  • Uphold the practice’s values, policies, and professional standards at all times.
