About The Position

TheExpanded Learning Time (ELT) Summer Nurse provides high-level clinical expertise and healthcare leadership, ensuring the safety, health, and well-being of the district's students during the summer session. This role is responsible for enhancing the educational experience by managing student health care plans, administering medications, and providing emergency medical support as needed. Key responsibilities include maintaining accurate health records, coordinating with families and staff regarding medical needs, and ensuring compliance with state and federal health regulations within a school setting. Requirements

  • Possession of a valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts or is required.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited college or university is preferred.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in pediatric, school, or public health nursing is preferred.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely in both oral and written forms; effectively present information and respond to questions from staff, parents, and the general public.
  • Read, analyze, and interpret professional periodicals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
  • Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions to inform decisions for student success.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, caregivers, staff, and the community.
  • Work with individuals and families of diverse backgrounds in an equitable, inclusive, and culturally proficient manner.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance to ensure consistent department operations and district-wide support.
  • React professionally and objectively to unpredictable situations, such as behavioral issues or environmental changes, while maintaining a proactive, reflective, and solution-focused approach.
  • Work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage several projects simultaneously while maintaining strong organizational skills to balance the demands of a multi-tasking position.
  • Perform duties with awareness of district requirements, state and federal laws, and Framingham Public Schools policies.
  • Maintain appropriate confidential records in accordance with FERPA/603 CMR 28.00.
  • Apply knowledge of current research and theory in education.
  • Demonstrate strong teaching, coaching, and leadership skills in a team setting.
  • Operate and acquire skills in computer software, including Google Workspace, and use instructional technology appropriately to facilitate learning.

Nice To Haves

  • Valid DESE School Nurse certification is preferred.
  • Fluency in Spanish and/or Portuguese is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide professional nursing care to students, including the assessment, planning, and implementation of treatments for illness, injury, and chronic health conditions.
  • Responsible for the safe administration and documentation of prescribed medications in accordance with state regulations and district policy.
  • Review and implement Individualized Health Care Plans (IHCPs) and emergency protocols for students with specialized medical needs.
  • Maintain comprehensive and confidential student health records, ensuring all entries are accurate and compliant with FERPA and HIPAA standards.
  • Consult with parents, teachers, and the ESY Coordinator to ensure that medical accommodations are integrated into the student’s school day.
  • Act as the first responder for medical emergencies on-site, providing stabilization and coordinating with emergency medical services (EMS) when necessary.
  • Monitor for communicable diseases and maintain a sanitary health office environment to ensure the safety of the school community.
  • Provide guidance or brief training to staff regarding specific student health needs (e.g., Epi-Pen usage or seizure protocols) as required.
  • Other reasonable duties as assigned by the Coordinator of Health Services or the Summer Nurse Coordinator.
