About The Position

Inspects, maintains, troubleshoots and repairs mechanical systems, including fixed and rotating equipment, engines, pumps, generators, compressors, piping, valves, vessels. Identifies and implements reliability, integrity, economic, carbon reduction, and safety improvements for above systems. Performs routine tasks independently. General supervision of non-routine work. Has basic knowledge of Chevron policies and practices Manufacturing Operations is accepting online applications for the position of Experienced Machinist or Millwright, located at the Richmond, California Refinery through March 19th, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. (PST). A Refinery Machinist or Millwright will perform a variety of maintenance, repair, and construction types of work in the field and shop settings of the refinery. Qualified successful candidates will perform duties such as fabrication of parts, operating machine tools such as lathes, mills, grinders (cylindrical and surface) and drills, use of precision tools, balancing of components, removal, installation and repair of new/existing equipment, rigging, and laser alignment. This position works with other Maintenance crafts, Reliability, Operations, and Technical groups daily. As a 24/7 operating refinery, working overtime, weekends, holidays, and shift work as needed. Machinist / Millwright craft typically works a 4/10 schedule or 9/80 schedule if approved. Job responsibilities may include but are not limited to: Machinists are responsible for the proper performance of work within reasonable time limits and by established procedures, regulations, safe practices, and all applicable codes. Works in Process Plant and Machine Shop environments. Performs troubleshooting, preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities. Disassembles, fabricates, assembles, and installs equipment and machinery as required. Maintains and repairs steam and mechanical drive systems such as steam turbines and electric motors. Maintains and repairs process equipment such as control valves, EBV valves, pumps, and compressors. Ability to safely and effectively utilize hand, power, and precision tools. Makes necessary craft computations and uses a computer. Ability to read mechanical drawings and blueprints. Must be able to take initiative and work independently. Has the ability to plan and organize daily work scope. Looks for and acts on opportunities to increase efficiency and reduce costs. Ability to display a comprehensive understanding of refinery policies and procedures. Ability to grasp issues and apply good problem-solving skills to develop recommendations/solutions. Build positive working relationships with operators and other crafts, both internal and external to Chevron.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Ability to communicate across all levels of the organization including Technical, Operations, and Maintenance
  • Candidates must demonstrate knowledge of safe work practices and maintain a personal commitment to Incident and Injury Free Operations
  • This job is a Safety Sensitive Position and is subject to Random Drug/Alcohol testing in addition to pre-employment background checks

Nice To Haves

  • 5+ years of refining or petrochemical maintenance experience
  • 5+ years of machine shop experience
  • Certificate in Machine Technology
  • Pump, turbine, compressor and valve overhaul experience
  • Laser alignment experience
  • Heavy equipment repair (exp. Deisel engine / large industrial compressors & pumps)
  • CNC G-code programing experience
