About The Position

Madden Industrial Craftsmen is seeking an experienced Fabricator / Welder for our client in Portland, OR. This position supports structural steel fabrication and installation for commercial buildings, bridges, and large infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with the following: structural steel layout and fit-up, blueprint reading, flux core welding, fabrication of beams and columns, and safe operation of lifting equipment in a production environment.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience as a Structural Steel Fitter, Fabricator, or Welder
• Strong ability to read and interpret structural steel blueprints and technical drawings
• Experience performing layout and fit-up for structural components
• Experience operating cranes, hoists, or heavy lifting equipment
• Ability to work safely at heights and in industrial environments
• Dependable attendance and strong safety awareness
• Ability to lift heavy materials and perform frequent standing, bending, and kneeling

Nice To Haves

• Experience on large-scale structural projects (bridges, commercial buildings, infrastructure)
• Flux core welding experience
• Structural welding certifications (AWS or similar)
• Experience assisting with technical fit-up or field modifications

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret structural steel blueprints, shop drawings, and layout plans
• Perform layout, fit-up, and alignment of beams, columns, braces, frames, and assemblies
• Measure, cut, drill, and prepare steel components per project specifications
• Perform welding and fabrication as required (primarily structural applications)
• Work closely with welders and team members to ensure proper fit and weld placement
• Inspect completed assemblies to ensure compliance with drawings and tolerances
• Operate cranes, hoists, and lifting equipment to position structural components
• Maintain tools and equipment while following OSHA and site-specific safety procedures
• Work at heights and in physically demanding environments as required
