About The Position

The Facilities Engineer will support two vehicle assembly sites, ensuring safety, operational continuity, and high-quality project execution. Key responsibilities include managing planned and unplanned facility projects, supporting maintenance and production teams, and overseeing contractor activity using GM safety processes. The position provides technical and engineering guidance, develops project estimates, and maintains accurate documentation through tools like Archibus, Maximo, ACAD, and GM shared systems. The role also drives workplace safety standards, supports BIQ, GMS, and departmental goals, and proactively identifies improvement opportunities. Strong customer focus is essential, with an emphasis on building trust, communicating effectively, and engineering sustainable systems that enable long-term business success in a changing environment.

Requirements

  • 5 years of experience in engineering
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering
  • Ability to work off shift and over time as needed

Nice To Haves

  • 5+ years' experience in one of the following engineering areas: mechanical, structural, or facilities
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment
  • Professional Engineering (PE) experience
  • Structural and or facilities related experience (Ex: Fire protection, HVAC, Utility services)
  • Experience with project management
  • Experience with contractor supervision
  • Background in industrial maintenance
  • Experience with industrial and or commercial infrastructure including fire protection systems, ventilation systems, building structures and civil work

Responsibilities

  • Display GM Behaviors and promote safety policies and practices
  • Manage planned and unplanned facility projects at two vehicle assembly sites
  • Be on call for infrequent facility emergencies as they happen
  • Manage contractors' activity utilizing the GM “safety contract management” process
  • Provide engineering and technical support to onsite “SA’s” Service Providers
  • Manage projects utilizing Archi bus
  • Provide input to facilities asset sustainment projects using Maximo and GM’s GPR process
  • Provide engineering estimates for budgeting and future project forecasting
  • Own and execute one or more of the GM workplace safety systems performance standards
  • Manage and update project files using ACAD and GM shared file storage
  • Communicate proactively with customer organizations from planning to completion of projects
  • Provide technical support to the facilities maintenance teams
  • Support both production and plant maintenance organizations
  • Be self-motivated and a self-starter (proactively look for opportunities to improve)
  • Support plant BIQ certification and GMS processes / activities
  • Support departmental BPD goals and objectives
  • Support the GM suggestions program if required
  • Use rigorous logic and methods to solve difficult problems with effective solutions
  • Meet the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers; gets first-hand customer information and uses it for improvements in products and services
  • Act with customers in mind; establish and maintain effective relationships with customers and gains their trust and respect
  • Engineering high quality, sustainable systems and processes that sustain future business productivity in multiple types of business units.
  • Ensure that the facility management team is positioned to succeed amid changing business trends
