About Facilities Management – Engineering Services: JLL’s Facilities Engineering teams are dedicated to operating and maintaining building systems to ensure safety, efficiency, and reliability for our clients. We oversee mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, as well as critical infrastructure components, to support operational continuity. Leveraging preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and integrated facilities management practices, our engineers use hands-on expertise and industry best standards to maximize performance and longevity of mechanical systems. We are currently seeking a Summer Intern in Facilities Engineering to join our team onsite at Pfizer’s Cambridge, MA facility. This immersive internship is designed for motivated engineering students who hold a 2nd Fireman or 3rd Engineer Stationary Boilers License and are eager to gain practical, field-based experience with building systems and integrated facilities management. You will work alongside seasoned JLL engineers, participate in mechanical rounds, and learn how multidisciplinary services support the operations of a high-profile client facility. Interns are an integral part of our team, working side-by-side with experienced engineers and facilities managers to develop practical skills, expand technical knowledge, and contribute directly to operational success. You will leave with an enhanced understanding of facilities engineering and the role it plays in delivering exceptional client service.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited engineering or related technical degree program.
  • Must hold a valid 2nd Fireman or 3rd Engineer Stationary Boilers License.
  • Strong interest in mechanical systems, HVAC, and facilities engineering.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated initiative and comfort working in a hands-on, field-based environment.
  • Commitment to safety standards and attention to detail.
  • Enthusiasm for learning from experienced facilities professionals in a live operational setting.
  • Permanent U.S. work authorization is required.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in regular mechanical rounds with JLL engineers, assisting in the monitoring, inspection, and maintenance of boilers, HVAC units, pumps, control systems, and other critical building systems.
  • Gain exposure to integrated facilities management practices, learning how engineering, maintenance, and building services are coordinated for a world-class client.
  • Assist in troubleshooting building systems and participate in preventive maintenance activities to ensure reliability and efficiency.
  • Document operational conditions by logging system readings, reviewing performance data, and identifying potential improvement opportunities.
  • Receive one-on-one mentorship from senior engineers to expand your technical skills and understanding of facility operations.
  • Support compliance with safety standards and contribute to the reliable delivery of facility services critical to Pfizer’s operations.
