About The Position

The Facility Intern will be responsible for assisting with projects and project related tasks within the State of California. Assist in elements of the planning, execution, and closeout phases of a variety of small and large-scale facility projects under the guidance of a manager within the Facilities Department. The role requires organizational and problem-solving skills and attention to detail. This position will last for approximately one year, with the expectation the intern would work part-time during the school year. The intern will work with their manager to establish a schedule that will allow them to complete their work while still attending their college classes. This position will be located in San Jose, CA. Internship Requirements One‑year commitment from June 1, 2026, through May 28, 2027 Summer - full time (32-40 hours per week) Fall/Spring/Winter - based on school schedule 100% on-site, no remote option Eligibility for employment in the US is required without sponsorship (ex. OPT, F1, etc.)

Requirements

  • Program study in construction management, project management, business administration, or a related field is preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to meet defined deadlines.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in project management software (e.g., Smartsheets, Microsoft Project).
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Eligibility for employment in the US is required without sponsorship (ex. OPT, F1, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Assist in elements of the planning, scheduling, execution, and closeout phases of a variety of facility projects. Projects include modifications to existing buildings and sites or new construction.
  • Create, maintain and/or update project status documentation, including schedules, budgets, action items, and stakeholder communications.
  • Utilize project management software (e.g., Smartsheets) to track progress, maintain project documentation and reports, update stakeholders, and manage change orders.
  • Communicates with Cal Water employees from other groups, departments, and districts to collect data, complete requests, and coordinate as necessary.
  • Attend team meetings and may assist in field activities such as job walks.
  • Assist Fleet Department with ordering, reports, follow-up, close-out, and updating database.
