About The Position

The Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for the general upkeep, repair, and preservation of the school’s physical plant and grounds. This role requires a versatile individual with a broad knowledge of building trades who can execute minor repairs independently while maintaining the high aesthetic and safety standards expected of an educational institution.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3–5 years in general maintenance, construction, or a related trade.
  • Demonstrated ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, and basic diagnostic equipment.
  • Familiarity with basic OSHA safety standards and building codes.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to interact professionally with faculty, students, and parents.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Frequent climbing of ladders and working in confined spaces (e.g., utility closets).
  • Ability to remain on feet for the duration of a shift and work in various weather conditions.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Successful completion of a comprehensive criminal background check.
  • Compliance with the school's drug-free workplace policy.

  • Experience in a school or campus setting is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plumbing: Perform basic repairs to restrooms and kitchen fixtures, including clearing obstructions, replacing washers/cartridges, and addressing minor leaks.
  • Electrical: Replace interior and exterior lighting components (bulbs, ballasts, LEDs) and perform minor resets or plate replacements.
  • Carpentry/Hardware: Repair or adjust doors, windows, and cabinetry. Install shelving, hang whiteboards/artwork, and repair minor furniture damage.
  • Finishing: Execute professional-grade drywall patching, sanding, and painting to maintain "like-new" interior conditions.
  • Conduct daily inspections of the campus to identify and mitigate safety hazards or deferred maintenance issues.
  • Ensure all mechanical rooms are organized and that life-safety equipment (fire extinguishers, exit signs) is unobstructed and functional.
  • Manage the digital work-order system, prioritizing tasks based on urgency and classroom impact.
  • Facilitate the setup and breakdown of furniture and technical equipment for school assemblies, athletic events, and board meetings.
  • Coordinate with external vendors (HVAC, Roofing, Landscaping) to provide site access and monitor project progress.
  • Assist with seasonal duties, including snow removal from entryways or minor groundskeeping as needed.
