The Operating Engineer provides electrical and mechanical support for the assigned buildings, main building is print facility in Libertyville, IL. This role has wide range of responsibilities, including low/medium voltage power, HVAC system and controls, mechanical system troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, emergency response, general maintenance, carpentry, plumbing system, and vendor management. Primary responsibilities will include electrical/mechanical support for power systems, lighting systems and controls, and other facility subsystems and support tools. This role will also manage general maintenance within our two offices located in Deerfield and downtown Chicago

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of three years of applicable working experience in general building repair and maintenance, and basic carpentry and plumbing.
  • Ability to work overtime and weekends as business needs require.
  • Ability to read basic mechanical/electrical diagrams and use hand/power tools safely.
  • General knowledge of air handler systems, generator, and BAS system
  • Ability to stand/walk for extended periods; frequent bending, kneeling, climbing ladders.
  • Lift and carry up to 50 lbs (with or without accommodation). Work in environments with noise, moving machinery, temperature variations.
  • This position requires frequent walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, lifting, stooping, and working/extending overhead, including:
  • Lifting a minimum of 80 lbs.
  • Using ladders up to 30 ft and working from heights.
  • Climbing a ladder while carrying a tool bag weighing approximately 20 lbs.
  • Ability to wear PPE (safety glasses, hearing protection, safety-toe footwear, gloves, etc.).
  • Strong mechanical aptitude: bearings, chains, belts, gearboxes, alignment, lubrication.
  • Basic-to-intermediate electrical skills: motors, sensors, relays, VFD basics (as applicable), control circuits.
  • Experience with pneumatics/hydraulics: valves, cylinders, compressors, regulators.

Responsibilities

  • Operate all building systems and infrastructure within the facilities, including fire/life safety, mechanical (HVAC, plumbing, controls,) lighting, and temperature control systems, light construction (painting, doors, locks)
  • Responsible for ensuring that maintenance projects performed at the building are properly planned, executed, and closed out following standard industry practices.
  • Be able to work with onsite team and vendors to manage planned outages mitigating risk to both production printers and network equipment
  • Perform minor plumbing repairs.
  • Move office furniture, machinery, equipment, and other materials, as requested
  • Complete all safety and related training per month.
  • Support upkeep of building systems such as HVAC, lighting, compressed air, plumbing, doors, and basic electrical/mechanical systems.
  • Responsible for overseeing the activities of contractors working within the building, either as representatives of the building itself or tenants operating within the building.
  • Respond effectively to all emergencies 24/7
  • Execute scheduled preventive maintenance tasks per work order.
  • Inspect equipment and systems to identify wear, potential failures, and safety concerns; recommend corrective actions.
  • Document findings and complete work orders with clear notes, parts usage, and downtime tracking.
  • Follow all safety policies including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), machine guarding requirements, PPE use, and safe work practices.
  • Ensure maintenance areas and ensure tools are orderly, clean and parts are stored safely.
  • Support audits and compliance programs (e.g., OSHA, GMP, SQF/BRC/food safety, if applicable).
  • Restore equipment to operational condition safely and quickly, minimizing production disruption.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, and Safety teams to support productivity and reliability goals.
  • Read and interpret manuals, schematics, and diagrams for repairs and PM development.
