About The Position

Wake County Facilities Design & Construction is looking for a Project Manager with experience in managing all phases of capital projects, which include a wide variety of project types, including public safety facilities, libraries, multi-services facilities, detention projects, and recreation and entertainment facilities. Come join our team! About Our Team Facilities Design & Construction manages the planning, design and construction of all capital improvement projects undertaken by Wake County Government. We also act as the bridge between the County Managers Office, the public, design consultants, and construction contractors. And, of course, we coordinate with other local governments, internal county departments, and private and nonprofit groups. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with our team in the Facilities Design & Construction department, which includes Architects, Landscape Architects, Mechanical and Civil Engineers, General Contractors, and Real Estate Specialists. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Landscape Architecture or Construction Management
  • Three years of experience in facilities project management, and/or architectural, engineering or site design
  • Valid Driver's License and "safe" driving record
  • Equivalent education and experience are accepted
  • Knowledge of planning and design of new building construction and renovations for a wide variety of project types
  • Ability to successfully develop and manage complex capital projects that comply with the county’s capital improvement program
  • Ability to identify problems, determine possible solutions and actively work to resolve issues with sound judgement
  • Ability to work with others, reach consensus and make decisions
  • Ability to communicate at all levels with County Commissioners, professional staff, design consultants, the community, and construction contractors
  • Ability to be patient and provide clear thinking in times of high stress
  • Proven record of managing projects through successful completion
  • Knowledge of jobsite and safety requirements specific to construction industry and OSHA standards

Nice To Haves

  • Eight years of experience in managing all phases of design and construction of capital projects
  • Licensed professional preferred in Architecture, Engineering or General Contracting

Responsibilities

  • Provide turnkey project management including planning, fiscal oversight, team coordination, design supervision, and construction administration for multiple design and construction projects
  • Prepare project schedules and complex capital project budgets
  • Monitor schedules and expenditures to assure compliance with the Capital Improvement Program
