About The Position

Supervises a large group of skilled maintenance workers, electricians, plumbers, carpenters, etc. in grades to NA-10 engaged in all phases of NEX construction maintenance and repair. Representative level of work supervised is NA-9.

Requirements

  • GENERAL EXPERIENCE One year of experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of general maintenance practices involving the upkeep of buildings grounds fixtures equipment etc.
  • SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE One year of high school education may be substituted for 3 months of general experience up to a High School Diploma or GED for one year of general experience.
  • SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE Five years of full performance maintenance work involving a variety of trade practices associated with such occupations as carpentry, electrical work, plumbing, painting etc.
  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Is required to stand stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts, carries and sets up materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds in the performance of duties.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and directs the activities of subordinate facilities improvements, workers engaged in performing a variety of work assignments relative to the construction and repair of Navy Exchange and Navy Hospitality Group facilities and equipment, installing electrical wiring, repair and replacing electrical equipment, painting interior walls, installing shelves, display, cases etc., performing carpentry work such as building walls, modifying the interiors of existing buildings, hanging doors and installing locksets, modifying, maintaining and repairing utilities, water heaters, valves, pumps, supply and disposal systems, and equipment installing altering and repairing carpet etc.
  • Establishes work schedules ensuring that there is enough work to keep everyone in work crew actively working on projects or work orders.
  • Determines work priorities, checks work in progress and when finished for compliance with sequence procedures and methods.
  • Answers workers questions regarding procedures policies instructions etc.
  • Accountable for meeting work deadlines.
  • Keeps supervisor informed on status and progress of work, causes of delays, overall work operations and problems which requires corrective action.
  • Coordinates all store and lodging projects with GM and local managers.
  • Supervises and evaluates subordinates, reviews work assignments and determines work priorities prepares work performance reviews and approves leave requests. Interviews and selects employees for job vacancies.
  • As required assists with preparing drawings and sketches of proposed changes to existing structures prior to performing any carpentry or electrical work assignments and/or installation or relocation of fixed equipment.
  • Assists with estimating material and labor costs involved in Minor Special and Major projects.
  • Prepares daily worksheets which includes work assignments, hours spent and material used.
  • May be responsible for the preparation and processing of purchase orders for materials, equipment, parts and accessories for use in repairs, modification of buildings and equipment etc.
  • Obtains supply items for electrical, carpentry, plumbing, HVAC and painting work for authorized projects.
  • Refers to applicable catalog to extract nomenclature of items.
  • Inserts such information as item description, delivery date and other data on purchase orders.
  • Contacts suppliers using multiple methods to obtain prices.
  • Maintains listing of local vendors and manufacturers by number and description of merchandise.
  • Reconciles Credit Card transactions as required and facilitates submission of project expenses on a regular basis to ensure project expenses remain within approved budgets.
  • Responsible for conducting periodic inventory of facilities supplies and equipment, determines discrepancies on short and damaged items and advises supervisor so that corrective action may be taken.
  • Accounts for all construction materials and equipment in stock.
  • Assures that safety and housekeeping rules and policies are followed e.g. assures that material handling equipment capacities are not exceeded and that tools are properly used and maintained.
  • Required availability to travel up to 50 and overtime work.
