About The Position

The Credentialing Specialist / Coordinator (Behavioral Health – SNF) is responsible for managing the credentialing, onboarding and coordination for psychiatric and behavioral health providers serving Skilled Nursing Facilities (SNFs) and long-term care settings. This role ensures Nurse Practitioners, Physicians, Psychologists, Behavioral Health Case Managers, Behavioral Health Coordinators, LPNs and Therapists are credentialed with facility networks to support uninterrupted patient care. This position is critical to revenue and clinical operations in post-acute psychiatry, requiring strong knowledge of credentialing, post-acute and acute credentialing requirements, and fast-paced provider onboarding workflows.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2–4 years of provider credentialing experience, preferably in behavioral health, psychiatry, or long-term care.
  • Basic understanding of Medicare, Medicaid, and managed care credentialing requirements in institutional and post-acute settings.
  • Experience with CAQH, PECOS, NPI registry, and state licensure systems.
  • Proven ability to manage provider credentialing and high-volume onboarding.
  • Excellent organizational, documentation, and time-management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Excel, Smartsheets, or credentialing software platforms.

  • Experience credentialing psychiatric providers in Skilled Nursing Facilities or long-term care organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Manage initial credentialing and re-credentialing for psychiatric providers (PMHNPs, Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Therapists).
  • Complete and track applications, contracts, and follow-ups to ensure timely participation and minimize provider downtime.
  • Maintain and attest provider profiles and supporting documentation for all behavioral health providers.
  • Monitor re-credentialing deadlines to prevent lapses in coverage.
  • Coordinating provider and facility onboarding, including coordinating start dates, completing all necessary paperwork, as well as assisting with provider coverage and weekly training schedules.
  • Coordinate provider credentialing and onboarding with Skilled Nursing Facilities, long-term care organizations, and facility credentialing departments.
  • Maintain provider rosters and ensure facilities have updated licensure, malpractice, and credentialing documentation.
  • Communicate provider go-live dates and credential status to operations, clinical leadership, and billing teams.
  • Verify and track provider licenses, DEA registrations, board certifications, malpractice insurance, and NPI records across multiple states.
  • Collaborate with HR, operations, and clinical leadership to align credentialing timelines with hiring and onboarding schedules.
  • Maintain a centralized credentialing database and provider onboarding tracker.
  • Ensure compliance with CMS, state regulatory agencies, and payer credentialing standards specific to behavioral health and SNFs.
  • Maintain organized credentialing files for internal audits and facility audits.
  • Audit credentialing records for accuracy, completeness, and regulatory compliance.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for facilities, and internal teams regarding behavioral health provider credentialing status.
  • Provide weekly or monthly credentialing status reports to leadership, including pending applications, delays, and network participation status.
  • Partner closely with billing and revenue cycle teams to ensure providers are activated for billing immediately upon approval.
  • Develop and maintain credentialing workflows, SOPs, and tracking tools tailored to behavioral health and SNF operations.
  • Identify bottlenecks in provider onboarding and recommend process improvements to accelerate time-to-bill.
  • Support organizational growth by scaling credentialing processes across multiple states and facility partners.
