About The Position

The Colorado Springs World Arena owns and independently operates The Broadmoor World Arena, the premier sports and entertainment venue in southern Colorado, and the adjacent World Arena Ice Hall. The Arena is a 7,500-seat multipurpose facility and the Ice Hall, with two sheets of ice, is a US Olympic and Paralympic Committee-designed Olympic Training Site for the U.S. Figure Skating and home of The Broadmoor Skating Club. CSWA also operates, under contract with El Paso County, the 2,000-seat Pikes Peak Center for the Performing Arts, home of the Colorado Springs Philharmonic. In coordination with and at the direction of the Operations Manager, this position is primarily responsible for event and building maintenance, including, but not limited to HVAC, electrical, carpentry, plumbing and ice maintenance as needed for the Arena, Ice Hall, and Pikes Peak Center.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two (2) years of practical experience troubleshooting, repairing and maintaining large facility HVAC and plumbing equipment and systems.
  • Willing to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends, and extra hours as needed; and work in varying weather conditions.
  • High school diploma, GED, or related trade school training; valid Colorado driver’s license; and interpersonal skills necessary to deal effectively with guests, vendors, staff, and other facility users.
  • Be reliable, honest, dependable, and punctual and have strong customer service.
  • Be a self-starter; have the ability to take directions; and be able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Be able to climb stairs and ladders; lift and carry equipment and supplies of up to 100 pounds on a regular basis; walk and work on roofs and catwalks over 75 feet high;

Nice To Haves

  • Technical licenses are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assumes responsibility for all services and activities involved in maintenance and operations, including HVAC, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, chillers, refrigeration, ice making, boilers, and associated equipment.
  • Works with the Operations Manager to plan, coordinate, and review the work plan for facility maintenance and operations; assigns work activities, monitors workflow; reviews and evaluates work productivity, methods, and procedures.
  • Maintains hazardous materials communication programs, material safety data sheets and required records and permits; maintains knowledge of changes in pertinent Federal, State and Local regulations.
  • Develops and maintains an accurate record keeping system.
  • Orders supplies and materials for maintenance programs within budget guidelines; receives and maintains supplies.
  • Responds to service calls.
  • Participate in Department staff coverage for events.
  • Directs supporting personnel in updating equipment logs.
  • Performs work related to, and assists in overseeing contractors in trades including but not limited to HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, electrical, electronics, carpentry, and painting.
  • Responds to trouble and emergency situations and supervises tasks necessary for the well-being and protection of occupants and property.
  • Performs general work involving sporting events, trade shows, concerts, conventions, family shows, and other events held at the facilities supporting all aspects of building and business functions.
  • Performs labor to load and unload equipment, as well as operating equipment and general tools.
  • Schedules, maintains, and repairs all exterior and interior lighting systems.
  • Works with operations personnel to ensure all third-party service contracts for the facilities are being followed and documented.
  • Continually develop new ways to efficiently run the facilities electrically and mechanically.
  • Use appropriate technical data and programs for mechanical work being done across the facilities. Used as a resource tool to document all work being done.
  • Implements, and maintains the energy management program for electrical consumption, water and sewer usage and natural gas consumption within the facilities.
  • Inspects, monitors, implements, and directs the compliance for all governmental requirements within the facility operations functions.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
