About The Position

Adapt to new and changing situations and demonstrate a positive attitude. Fifteen credit hours a semester constitute a standard load. This position requires evening courses as a portion of the regular teaching load. Position is subject to all terms and provisions of the Joliet Junior College faculty contract.

Requirements

  • All candidates must have a MS or higher in Anatomy and/or Physiology or a closely related field of Biology to meet credentialing criteria.
  • Two (2) years of teaching experience at the collegiate level.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community, displaying cultural competence as well as emotional intelligence.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the college’s core values of respect and inclusion, sustainability, integrity, collaboration, humor and well-being, innovation and quality.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference will be given to candidates with a PhD in Anatomy and/or Physiology or a closely related field of Biology.
  • Experience at the community college level.
  • Expertise in appropriate technologies for instruction.
  • Experience in teaching online and/or using course management programs.
  • Experience in course development and assessment, planning, quality and accreditation processes, and committee service.
  • Experience with traditional and non-traditional students from diverse backgrounds.
  • English and Spanish verbal and written communication proficiency.
  • Demonstrated multicultural competence.

Responsibilities

  • Teach at least three courses in Human Anatomy & Physiology, Human Biology, General Biology and other biology as needed.
  • Work closely with other instructors and special programs and services within the college to determine placements, curriculum, and academic support.
  • Participate in course development, assessment, accreditation, and planning activities.
  • Be willing to teach online and/or blended courses.
  • Be willing to teach evening courses as a portion of the regular teaching load.
  • Participate in appropriate departmental meetings and recruitment activities; serve on committees.
  • Assist students with academic advising.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching and learning.
  • Demonstrate strong understanding and commitment to the community college mission.
  • Teach at other campus sites as needed.
  • Teach daytime, evening and weekend courses as needed.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities.
  • Meet other contractual obligations as spelled out in the Joliet Junior College faculty contract.
