About The Position

As a member of the law library’s reference and instruction team, the Faculty Services Librarian coordinates and maintains overall research services for law faculty, and provides extensive reference and instructional services for both faculty and students. The person in this position will also contribute to the team through individualized research consultations with students; teaching of legal research skills; selection of library materials; collaborative work with other librarians on team projects; and participation in departmental planning activities. The person in this position reports to the Head of Public Services and is expected to engage in service to the University, UO Libraries, and community through work on committees and similar groups; participate in appropriate professional development activities and organizations to stay current with trends and practices in the field; meet UO Libraries faculty criteria for promotion and retention; and contribute to the University’s goals regarding equity and inclusion.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Library/Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution within 9 months of appointment.
  • Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited program by time of appointment.
  • Master’s Degree in Library/Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution.
  • Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited program.
  • Six years post-MLIS experience in an academic law library.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
  • Mastery of basic legal research sources and techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach and/or provide instruction.
  • Database and Internet searching proficiencies.
  • Knowledge of legal information sources and related technologies.
  • Ability to achieve results in a collaborative environment.
  • Strong service orientation.
  • Commitment to learning new and emerging technologies.
  • Ability to support and enhance a collegial, cooperative, and diverse working and learning environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Reference and/or instructional experience in an academic law library.
  • Experience providing classroom and/or remote instruction.
  • Experience using LibGuides.
