POSITION SUMMARY The Head Start/Early Head Start Family Engagement Specialist is responsible for supporting the larger system of social services coordinated by Head Start to staff and families with children between the ages of 0-5 years. The Family Engagement Specialist assists in planning and implementing family engagement activities and supporting families in meeting basic needs as well as setting goals for personal and family growth. The Family Engagement Specialist maintains an open, friendly, professional relationship with all staff and families and participates in continuous quality improvement activities that strengthen the program.

Requirements

  • Associates degree (AA or AAS) in in Family Child Development, Social Work, or related field plus two years’ experience providing family-centered services to families of young children or combination of education and/or experience to equal four years could be considered.
  • Must have a valid Driver’s license
  • Must provide proof of personal valid vehicle insurance
  • TB Assessment prior to start
  • Background screenings required prior to start
  • Excellent Excel, Word, and PowerPoint skills.
  • Strong organization skills
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal
  • Ensure the confidentiality of information regarding program, staff and individuals served
  • Respect the rights of all individuals served
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Travel is required.
  • Must be able to lift 10 pounds at times and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus while using the computer

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Paycom platform, Childplus preferred, Head Start Performance Standards, Previous experience coaching or mentor capacity preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates respect for the capabilities, backgrounds and cultural differences of families, children, co-workers, and the public consistent with trauma informed practices.
  • Develops and maintains positive, supportive relationships with education staff for the purpose of supporting family engagement and relationship building between staff and families using the family outcomes assessment, identification, and implementation of goals for family engagement plans, family partnership goals and referrals for relevant community resources.
  • Engage family participation through strengths-based supports including home visits as needed, serving as a resource to low-income families, maintaining regular contact with families, facilitating parenting curriculum, using the Parent family Community Engagement Framework, and identify barriers.
  • Support the Family Engagement process with staff by helping to prep and by conducting joint required home visits as needed, mentoring, coaching, and reflecting with staff and/or collaborating with staff on the process.
  • Support health outcomes, attendance plans, crisis intervention, and family outcomes through motivational interviewing process with parents.
  • Supports family engagement by planning, facilitating, and attending most parent orientations, parent meetings, parent education, parent activities, and family events and actively encourages parents to participate in Parent Committee meetings, field trips, Policy Council, and classroom volunteering.
  • Develop community relationships by actively participate in community resource planning and related work to establish and foster strong partnerships.
