Family Medicine Physician - Rural Healthcare

CHS RecruitingAlma, GA

About The Position

The new family medicine physician will work in a rural healthcare setting and see an average of 25 patients per day, with ample support from a dedicated team and administrative time built into the schedule. This is a traditional practice model in which physicians see their own patients in both the clinic and the hospital, which are located across the street from each other. The duties of the role include, but are not limited to: - adult and pediatric rounding in a critical access hospital - adult and pediatric outpatient visits in a rural health clinic - annual wellness exams - sick visits - evaluate, diagnose, and provide treatment - refer patients to specialists as needed - discuss procedures, test results, and treatments with patients and families - recommend preventive health measures - prescribe medications and formulate treatment plans - some work in the Level I Well-Baby Nursery (largely handled by pediatrician) - some newborn rounding (largely handled by pediatrician) While there is flexibility to the structure, most physicians begin each day by rounding in the hospital. The facility has 25 beds and an average daily census of 10. Physicians round only on their own patients and rounding typically lasts 45 minutes or less. After rounding, physicians go to the rural health clinic across the street and see 20 to 25 patients. The system uses the MEDITECH electronic health record. The physician's call schedule is 1:5 and includes emergency room admissions and calls from the medical/surgical floor. Please note that the system is in the process of transitioning to a nocturnist model, so the on-call schedule will favorably change in the future.
