About The Position

The Family Time Coaching Program serves families who are referred by DHHS/OCFS, whose children have recently entered the custody of DHHS. The FTC provides supervised visitation in family's homes/communities utilizing a coaching model to promote healthy relationships and in accordance with each individual family's Family Visitation Plan. The FTC serves as a team player on the family's team, consistently demonstrating unconditional positive regard, compassion, and empathy. The FTC position will cover Cumberland and York Counties.

Requirements

  • Knowledge in the areas of grief, loss, separation and trauma.
  • An understanding of normative child development.
  • Ability to respond calmly and competently to crisis situations.
  • Understanding of unconditional positive regard.
  • Understanding of professional boundaries and ability to set appropriate limits.
  • Understanding of the dynamics of working with children and families who have behavioral and emotional challenges.
  • Understanding of mental health, child welfare and social service system within the state of Maine.
  • Ability to actively and reflectively engage in the supervisory process.
  • Understanding of a treatment philosophy that is receptive and sensitive to choices and behaviors based on racial, cultural, socioeconomic or ethnic background, religious or spiritual affiliation or sexual orientation.
  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Social Work or related field
  • At least 6 months of previously documented experience working with children and families.
  • Valid State of Maine driver's license, 50/100/25 automobile insurance, and a reliable vehicle

Responsibilities

  • Provides supervised visitation for parents and children in the family's home or community.
  • Provides feedback and coaching to parents to promote healthy familial engagement.
  • Thoroughly reviews each Family Visitation Plan, referral, and court orders to ensure visits occur within established guidelines.
  • Attends Family Team Meetings to partner with family members and to keep team members abreast of progress occurring within visits.
  • Completes visitation notes in accordance to program procedures.
  • Coordinates and engages parents in pre/post discussions to take advantage of windows of opportunity for teaching and de-briefing in order to assist parents in strengthening parenting skills.
  • Ensures culturally competent service delivery, evaluating the cultural preferences and needs of each family and customizing visits accordingly, as appropriate with the Family Visitation Plan.
  • Responds to subpoenaed requests, attending court as necessary.
  • Offers flexibility to meet the needs of the FTC Program, including ensuring availability when families are able to meet.
  • Consistently role models a high level of professionalism during interactions with co-workers, supervisors, and external providers.
  • Travels throughout the District as necessary to meet the needs of the FTC Program.
