About The Position

The Farm & Stables Director provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for the Anne Springs Close Greenway’s Children’s Farm and Equestrian programs. This role is responsible for ensuring the highest standards of animal care, guest experience, and program quality while supporting the Greenway’s mission of connecting people to nature through recreation, education, and stewardship. The Director oversees all aspects of farm and equestrian operations including herd management, riding lessons, educational programming, camps, and public engagement opportunities. This position leads and develops staff, manages departmental budgets and facilities, and works collaboratively across departments to expand programming, enhance guest experiences, and support the continued growth of farm and equestrian offerings at the Greenway.

Requirements

  • Demonstrates leadership and team management experience, with the ability to recruit, develop, and supervise staff while fostering a collaborative and positive team culture.
  • Strong knowledge of equestrian operations, herd management, horse training, and stable management, including equine health, nutrition, conditioning, and welfare.
  • Experience overseeing educational or recreational programming, with the ability to develop, implement, and evaluate programs that are safe, engaging, and mission-aligned.
  • Ability to maintain high standards of safety, risk management, and animal welfare across all farm and equestrian operations.
  • Strong organizational and operational management skills, including the ability to oversee multiple programs, facilities, staff schedules, and operational priorities.
  • Demonstrated financial stewardship, including experience managing departmental budgets, monitoring expenses, and supporting revenue-generating programs.
  • Excellent customer service and guest engagement skills, with the ability to create a welcoming and professional environment for riders, visitors, volunteers, and program participants.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to effectively communicate with staff, guests, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Ability to analyze program performance and guest feedback to improve services and expand program offerings.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, evenings, and holidays, particularly during peak program seasons.
  • Ability to become highly familiar with the Anne Springs Close Greenway property, programs, and mission and represent the organization professionally.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Equestrian Studies, Animal Science, Agriculture, Recreation Management, Education, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in equestrian or farm operations, including experience supervising staff and overseeing programs.
  • Demonstrated experience with horse herd management and equine program operations, including coordination of veterinary and farrier services.
  • Experience managing or overseeing equestrian programs such as riding lessons, camps, educational programming, or public farm programs.
  • Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for the Children’s Farm and Greenway Stables, ensuring high standards of animal care, guest experience, program quality, and safety.
  • In conjunction with staff oversee the health, wellbeing, and appropriate management of all farm and equestrian animals, including oversight of nutrition programs, veterinary care, farrier services, conditioning, and herd composition to support programming needs.
  • Lead the recruitment, supervision, scheduling, and professional development of farm and equestrian staff, ensuring adequate staffing levels to support operations and programs.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate farm and equestrian programs, including lessons, camps, demonstrations, and educational experiences, with a focus on growth, quality, and risk management.
  • Regularly analyze program performance and guest feedback to ensure programs meet customer expectations, support rider development, and align with the organization’s mission and strategic goals.
  • Oversee budget planning, financial performance, and expense management for farm and equestrian operations.
  • Partner with the Resources and Maintenance teams to ensure barns, pastures, arenas, fencing, and related facilities are well maintained, safe, and supportive of high-quality programming.
  • Ensure policies, procedures, and safety protocols are established, communicated, and consistently followed for staff, volunteers, riders, and guests.
  • Oversee the administration and coordination of program registration and scheduling systems, ensuring accurate program listings, pricing, and communication with Guest Services and Marketing teams.
  • Foster a professional and welcoming environment at the farm and stables, ensuring clear communication with guests, riders, parents, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Respond to and resolve guest inquiries, concerns, and service issues in a timely and professional manner.
  • Collaborate with other Greenway departments to integrate farm and equestrian experiences into broader programming, special events, and educational initiatives.
  • Support the organization’s mission by building relationships with volunteers, community partners, and educational groups to enhance the reach and impact of farm and equestrian programs.
  • Maintain a visible leadership presence within farm and equestrian operations, providing guidance and support to staff and stepping in to assist with programs or lessons as needed.
  • Participate in organizational meetings, trainings, and strategic planning efforts.
  • Support the organization through special projects and other duties as assigned.
