About The Position

General Summary Installs, maintains, and services customer premises equipment. Typically installs drop wires, station protectors, and network interface devices, and performs initial wiring or rewiring for new subscriber systems. Performs testing using fiber optic test equipment. Splices, locates, terminates, and maintains cable, including fiber-optic cable. Identifies, counts, and prepares groups of pairs for splicing. Transfers service from one cable or terminal to another. Install VOIP phone systems at customer locations Essential Job Functions Receives service orders and necessary equipment used in installing, upgrading, or changing a customer’s telephone service or equipment. Splice fiber optic cable including single or mass fusion splices. Installs, removes or makes changes in residential and business service per service order Installs drop wire from pole to house. Installs wires to base of telephone instrument. Performs fiber optic testing using an optical time domain reflector meter, (OTDR) to isolate faults. Locates fiber optic cables. Installs ground protection for unwanted electrical surges. Qualify lines for special services. Performs all installation techniques necessary to ensure neatness and concealment where possible of wires leading to telephone instruments. Informs, by telephone and completed service order, Customer Service Consultant, when job is completed in order to update records. Installs concealed telephone wire and other equipment at buildings under construction. Maintains residential and business telephones from customer trouble reports. May install and maintain equipment for diversified telecom services including DSL and VOIP phones systems. Repairs all types of trouble on open wire, cable plant, drop wire, station wiring, DSL modems, and telephones Makes trouble tickets and maintains time sheets and vehicle records. Proficient at splicing, installing, and repairing facilities, including copper buried aerial, and fiber optics. Includes cross-connect boxes, pedestals, and building terminals Proficient in grounding and bonding of all pedestals, cables, and fiber optic cable. Performs all other related duties as assigned by management. These tasks do not meet the Americans with Disabilities Act definition of essential job functions and are usually less than 5% of time spent. Ability to read and interpret documents such as maps, staking sheets, and operating and maintenance instruction manuals. Ability to pay close attention to detail. Ability to evaluate, test, and repair sophisticated equipment. Ability to improve or redesign procedures for specific installation/repair problems. Ability to work independently and make sound technical decisions using information at hand. Skill in reading cable schematics, fiber count reports and verification reports Ability to drive a company vehicle daily. Good driving record. Ability to represent the company by selling products and services offered by the company. Ability to effectively function as a team player. Ability to pass and maintain DOT physical.

Requirements

  • Ability to improve or redesign procedures for specific installation/repair problems.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound technical decisions using information at hand.
  • Skill in reading cable schematics, fiber count reports and verification reports
  • Ability to drive a company vehicle daily. Good driving record.
  • Ability to represent the company by selling products and services offered by the company.
  • Ability to effectively function as a team player.
  • Ability to pass and maintain DOT physical.
  • High School diploma with two years of telecommunications education or equivalent work experience.
  • good customer skills and a good driving record also required.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology or proficient knowledge in fiber optics, security alarm systems, and/or A+ certification a plus
