Position Summary Coordinates activities related to all aspects of laser fiber manufacturing. In addition, performs repetitive bench or line assembly operations to mass produce products by performing the following duties. Essential Duties and Responsibilities 1. Technical 1.1. Planning: Includes the consideration of stock levels, activity level, demand, operator skills, physical environment as well as other related factors in appropriately coordinating work activities for assembly staff. Includes the ability to formally report work plans and justifications both qualitatively and quantitatively. 1.2. Inventory Control: Includes conversion of RAW fiber (meters) into fiber assemblies (each). Cycle counts performed on RAW materials used in the manufacturing process. Tracking of materials used daily in each workstation. 1.3. Fiber Preparation – Cut Fiber to Length: Includes rolling out spools of RAW fiber and cutting them to length. Stripping and cleaving of the fiber using assigned instrumentation. Must be able to follow work instructions and fill out paperwork as stated in the Quality Procedures. 1.4. SMA Connector Attachment: Includes attaching both the ferrule and the SMA connector to the fiber. Finger dexterity and depth perception (vision) are strong elements at this station. Must be able to follow work instructions and fill out paperwork as stated in the Quality Procedures. 1.5. SMA Connector Polishing: Includes attaching the fiber assembly to the polishing plate and operating the polishing machine. Hand and eye coordination is required when manually polishing fibers. Good hearing capability is required when operating the polishing machine – polishing “sounds” can determine quality effects. Must be able to follow work instructions and fill out paperwork as stated in the Quality Procedures. 1.6. Fiber Power Testing: Includes testing each fiber on a holmium laser. Computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Excel and file management are required. Must be able to follow work instructions and fill out paperwork as stated in the Quality Procedures. 1.7. Cleaning and Packaging Fibers: Includes Cleaning and inspecting fibers for any defects prior to packaging. Packaging of fibers into an insert and heat sealing the pouches. Must be able to follow work instructions and fill out paperwork as stated in the Quality Procedures. 1.8. Quality Inspections Including Visual and Measuring: Visual inspections are required throughout the fiber manufacturing process. A final visual inspection of the fiber is required for the Label and Packaging steps. Includes use of magnifying glass to verify length of the fiber tip and a visual inspection of the fiber package to verify that no unwanted debris are in the package. Must be able to follow work instructions and fill out paperwork as stated in the Quality Procedures. 1.9. Label Printing and Label Packaging: Includes printing of various packaging labels. Computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Word and Acrobat are required. Must be able to follow work instructions and fill out paperwork as stated in the Quality Procedures. 2. Administrative 2.1. Complete all associated manufacturing documentation as stated in the Quality Procedures. 2.2. Responsible for meeting established production schedules, quality levels and Supervisor instructions related to manufacturing of the fibers. 3. Travel 3.1. Not Applicable 4. Developmental 4.1. Stays current with all procedural updates by attending training sessions. 4.2. Successfully complete yearly assigned Training Needs Analysis and Training Plan objectives 4.3. Train new hires and/or temporary workers on manufacturing procedures. 5. Supervisory 5.1. This position coordinates the activities of the other fiber assembly personnel related to laser fiber manufacturing including staffing levels, inventory levels, part availability, customer demands, staff skills and production capacity. 6. Additional Duties and Responsibilities 6.1 Performs such additional duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by management.
