About The Position

The Application Engineer (AE) position requires a high level of technical and application expertise for all Cooper Power Systems Division (CPSD) products and packaged solutions, including a working knowledge of product applications, installations and electrical distribution systems. The AE position is responsible for developing and maintaining strong relationships with electrical consultants (power system designers) that serve the commercial-industrial & government marketplace. One must have expert application and product knowledge in electrical power distribution, power quality, power control and power reliability. The AE is expected to develop and sustain relationships with principals, lead electrical engineers and staff engineers at targeted electrical consulting firms, and other designated firms in his/her market. The AE must also be intimately familiar with the spec/bid/buy, commercial project procurement system, and be able to develop and communicate project sales strategies to sales representatives in his/her district and throughout the electrical sector. One must be capable of forging partnerships with internal resources (product lines, sales forces) and third-party influencers to best position Eaton for specific projects. The AE will position Eaton to be in an advantageous position to obtain the equipment order wherever the order is placed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Minimum seven (7) years of electrical industry sales and/or electrical engineering experience
  • Possess a valid driver’s license
  • No relocation benefit is offered for this position. Only candidates within a 50-mile radius of Littleton, CO; Salt Lake City, UT; Las Vegas, NV; San Diego, CA; City of Industry CA; Chandler, AZ; Tukwila, WA will be considered. Active-Duty Military Service member candidates are exempt from the geographical area limitation.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship now or in the future
  • Knowledge of specific application of capacitors, transformers and switchgear to industrial or utility systems as well as communication and SCADA systems knowledge and use required
  • Excellent oral and written communication and motivational skills to work with a wide array of electrical engineering firms, end-users or other decision makers and all levels of buying influences
  • Highly motivated to influence specifications to include or require the use of Eaton Cooper Power Systems equipment and services
  • Capability to travel extensively within North America to accomplish the goals and objectives of this position
  • Skills with engineering-based software packages common to the industry
  • Ability to travel up to 50%

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain a list of specifiers to target approvals and conversion of specifications to meet annual growth and development plans for assigned territory or products
  • Plan collaboratively with the Regional C&I Sales Manager(s) to coordinate joint customer calls with C&I sales representatives to existing and new customer targets
  • Develop methodologies and specification support materials in coordination with product marketing to conduct presentations and training for target specifiers, customers and Eaton PSD, C&I representatives, which include, but not limited to seminars, lunch & learns, conferences, hands-on instruction, job site visits, etc.
  • Furnish technical and application support for C&I representatives as required with the primary objective of influencing specifications favorable to CPSD
  • Guide development of marketing materials and assist in gathering voice of the customer (VOC) when required
  • Analyze opportunities & develop specification influencing actions for specific markets, products and systems identified in annual strategies to assure favorable or preferential treatment of CPSD
  • Recommend specification & competitive alternatives for specifications written around competitive products to position CPSD products as functional equivalents
  • Perform product training when required to end-user, specifying or other constituents to facilitate the use, application and understanding of CPSD products
