The focus of the position will be to lead safe, compliant, and reliable day-to-day operations of customer-owned environmental treatment systems while supervising Operators, coordinating preventive and corrective maintenance, and ensuring accurate operational documentation and customer communication. This is a full-time, hands-on leadership role reporting to the Program Manager / Operations Manager and supervising an initial team of approximately 8 Operators. The ideal candidate has demonstrated leadership in industrial operations, water or wastewater, environmental services, utilities, or a related field; brings strong mechanical aptitude; and maintains a disciplined approach to safety, documentation, and respectful customer-facing communication. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated capabilities in collaborating with others to perform engineering tasks within a team environment. Work experience with a privately held company will be beneficial.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical degree or trade training preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in industrial operations, water or wastewater, environmental services, utilities, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated leadership capability (supervisor, lead operator, or equivalent).
  • Working knowledge of mechanical systems, pumps, valves, instrumentation, and maintenance planning fundamentals.
  • Strong documentation discipline for logs, checklists, work orders, and compliance-related records.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to meet site access requirements (background and drug screening as applicable).

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with digital rounds and tablet-based forms; proficiency with Excel and Word (preferred).
  • Wastewater or water treatment certification (state-specific) or ability to obtain within an agreed timeframe (preferred).
  • Experience supporting CCR handling systems, industrial wastewater, or power/heavy-industry environmental systems (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Lead site safety culture through daily safety touchpoints, JSAs/JHAs, toolbox talks, and enforcement of PPE and safe work practices.
  • Ensure operations meet permit and customer requirements by supporting monitoring, routine inspections, logbooks, and reporting inputs.
  • Coordinate and support customer and regulatory audits/inspections and drive timely closure of corrective actions.
  • Supervise and schedule Operators to meet coverage requirements, including weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Provide daily direction for system operations, including start-ups/shutdowns, equipment checks, chemical handling, and housekeeping.
  • Troubleshoot operational issues, escalate risks, and coordinate timely corrective actions.
  • Lead preventive maintenance execution, track completion, backlog, and priority work.
  • Create and submit work orders, assign tasks, verify availability of parts, and coordinate vendors/contractors as needed.
  • Maintain equipment readiness through chemical inventory controls, critical spare parts management, and tool/equipment oversight.
  • Train, coach, and evaluate Operator performance; support hiring and onboarding through interviews, skills assessments, and field coaching.
  • All other duties as assigned.
