About The Position

Incumbent serves as Field Services Coordinator for Community Corrections, responsible for supervising, investigating, developing treatment plans for program participants and monitoring and documenting compliance.

Requirements

  • Baccalaureate Degree in criminal justice, sociology, or related area, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain required certifications/training within time specified by department, including first responder/CPR, response to resistance, verbal de-escalation, and disease control.
  • Working knowledge of and ability to make practical application of local, state, and federal regulations and standard policies, procedures, and legal terminology of the department and the criminal justice system.
  • Working knowledge of and ability to follow personnel policies and work rules of the employer/ department, including, but not limited to, attendance, safety, drug-free workplace, and personal conduct.
  • Working knowledge of standard English grammar, spelling and punctuation, and ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with co-workers, other County departments, program participants, Department of Corrections, and employers, including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities and disabilities.
  • Ability to communicate with internal and/or external providers.
  • Ability to facilitate and maintain productive communication while maintaining a professional, pro-social relationship with participants and employees.
  • Ability to express empathy regarding participant’s situations as appropriate.
  • Ability to de-escalate potentially volatile situations between participants when necessary.

  • Ability to properly use all assigned equipment, including two-way radio, electronic monitoring equipment, alcosensor, hand cuffs, OC spray, and baton.
  • Ability to operate a variety of office equipment including telephone, copier, printer, calculator, pager, fax machine and cellular telephone.
  • Ability to provide public access to or maintain confidentiality of department information/records according to state requirements.
  • Ability to work alone and with others in a team environment with minimum supervision, and maintain appropriate, respectful interrelationships with co-workers.
  • Ability to regularly work evening hours, occasionally work extended and/or weekend hours, and occasionally travel out of town for training, meetings, and participant monitoring, sometimes overnight.
  • Ability to serve on 24-hour call for emergencies.
  • Possession of a valid Indiana driver's license and demonstrate a safe driving record.
  • As a result of the duties associated with this job, there is the potential of becoming exposed to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious diseases. To safeguard employees and eliminate the liability placed on Hamilton County, employees working in this position shall begin the three shot Hepatitis B vaccination and subsequent training within 10 days of their initial job assignment per OSHA 29 CFR 1910.1030(f)(2)(i). The initial and two subsequent vaccinations shall be administered by the Hamilton County Health Department and free of charge to the employee. If the employee has previously received the three shot Hepatitis B vaccination, official documentation must be provided to the supervisor identifying the dates in which each shot was appropriately administered. A Temporary Medical Declination may be made for a period of up to six months. A Declination form must be completed, outlining the medical reasons for the temporary declination and forwarded to the Safety & Risk Manager. Employees temporarily declining the vaccine are prohibited from performing any duties in which they may be exposed to a blood borne pathogen or other potentially infectious disease until they are able to begin/continue the series of vaccinations. Failure to comply will result in termination of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Administers an assessment of participant’s risk and needs.
  • Utilizes assessment results to develop an individual treatment plan for each participant.
  • Monitors participant’s program attendance.
  • Monitors participant’s treatment plan compliance and evaluates overall progress.
  • Manages caseload in an effective manner.
  • Manages time and organizes work demands appropriately.
  • Supervises assists and monitors program participants.
  • Reviews, executes and insures compliance with court orders.
  • Conducts surveillance, visiting/ monitoring/documenting job/activity sites for compliance with program contract terms, reporting violations, and maintaining various document and computer files.
  • Assists program participants in obtaining necessary treatment/education services identified in their treatment plan.
  • Installs and maintains electronic monitoring equipment, initiating repairs as needed.
  • Enters program participant daily activity schedule and verifies activities.
  • Searches participants, their home and property for contraband according to prescribed procedures, and tests for illegal drugs and alcohol, including collecting urine samples and operating alcosensor tests.
  • Assists with participant intake, including completing required forms, explaining program rules and contract terms, and executing contracts.
  • Maintains current and accurate case files.
  • Accurately documents pertinent information from contacts.
  • Serves as liaison to participants and employers, including explaining program policies, answering questions, mediating conflicts, and resolving problems.
  • Prepares files and various documents with court identifying the program participant’s progress and testifies in court proceedings.
  • Maintains current knowledge of applicable local, stand, and federal rules/regulations, new developments, technology and trends in the field of community corrections by reading professional publications and periodically attending training/seminars/conferences.
  • Monitors payment of program participant fees and participates in the collection process.
  • Periodically performs duties for other department personnel in their absence.
  • Serves on 24-hour call for emergencies.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
