About The Position

The City of Independence is looking for a Finance Analyst for Independence Power and Light. The IPL Finance Analyst’s responsibilities include but are not limited to: Help gather and organize information for reports, policies, and procedures. Assist with reviewing basic financial and operational information to understand how the organization is doing. Work with utility data to check for accuracy and notice patterns or trends. Support the budget process by helping with preparation, planning, and comparing expected and actual results. Use simple tools and spreadsheets to explore different options and see how decisions may affect the organization. Create easy-to-understand reports, presentations, and materials to share information with coworkers and supervisors. Perform other related duties as needed. Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from college with a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, Public or Business Administration, or related field; AND Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience performing above and related duties; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. Must complete required NIMS level training within first six months of hire. Knowledge of principles and practices of municipal budget preparation and accounting; principles of city management; pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes and regulations Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; analyze written materials and financial reports; prepare clear and concise administrative and financial reports and research and identify critical data to report in support of goals; work independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function; demonstrate proficiency with spreadsheets and other software tools Skills to analyze programs, policies and operations; using tact, discretion, initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines; analyzing and suggesting solutions to office administrative situations and problems; researching, compiling, and summarizing a variety of informational and statistical date and materials; organizing work, setting priorities, meeting critical deadlines, and following up assignments with a minimum of direction; applying logical thinking to solve problems or accomplish tasks; to understand, interpret and communicate complicated policies, procedures and protocols; mathematical skills; communicating clearly and effectively, orally and in writing; preparing clear and concise reports, correspondence and other written materials.

Requirements
