About The Position

As a Finance Analyst, you will play a key role in maintaining the integrity of the Institute’s financial records and supporting effective management of research funding. You will work closely with the Financial Accounting Manager and collaborate across Finance, the Research Office, scientific platforms, and external partners including universities, banks, insurers, and auditors. This varied role combines financial accounting, reporting, compliance, and exposure in research grant post‑award activities.

Requirements

  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related discipline.
  • Strong Excel skills (intermediate to advanced).
  • Experience in financial reporting and/or grant acquittals.
  • High attention to detail with a strong compliance mindset.
  • Analytical and solution‑focused.
  • Strong organisational and time‑management skills.
  • Clear verbal and written communication.
  • Collaborative and supportive working style.

Nice To Haves

  • Progress toward (or completion of) CPA or CA highly regarded.
  • Exposure to financial accounting or research finance in a university or medical research institute environment (preferred).
  • Understanding of funding body compliance requirements (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Financial Accounting Support
  • Assist with general ledger maintenance, balance sheet reconciliations, journals and fixed asset processes.
  • Support month‑end and year‑end close activities.
  • Prepare financial reports, schedules and variance analysis.
  • Assist with external audit documentation and statutory reporting.
  • Support taxation and regulatory reporting (e.g., BAS, FBT, ACNC, ABS).
  • Maintain accurate financial records and archives.
  • Research Finance – Post‑Award Support
  • Assist with grant and budget setup in finance systems.
  • Monitor expenditure against grant budgets and flag non‑compliant spend.
  • Support forecasting of grant funds and prepare financial acquittals.
  • Ensure transactions comply with funding agreements and cost categories.
  • Respond to routine finance queries from researchers.
  • Maintain grant documentation and support audit activities.
  • Corporate Card Administration
  • Support the corporate card program, including cardholder maintenance.
  • Monitor and reconcile transactions and ensure accurate coding.
  • Follow up outstanding acquittals and support policy compliance.
  • Systems, Reporting & Process Improvement
  • Extract data and prepare financial and grant reports.
  • Contribute to standard report development.
  • Support finance system enhancements and process documentation.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
