About The Position

The Financial Empowerment Coach and Program Coordinator plays a crucial role in supporting under-resourced and at-risk students by offering holistic, individualized guidance in academic success and financial literacy. This cross-functional position combines elements of academic advising, financial education, and student success coaching to create a comprehensive support system for students. This person will be part of the Strategic Outreach Advocacy and Retention (SOAR) Team in the CORD who work closely with campus partners, including academic advisors, financial aid staff, retention specialists, Student Affairs, and CORD teams, to provide proactive and personalized outreach that promotes student persistence, academic achievement, financial well-being, and overall college success. The role focuses on helping students transition into college, manage academic and financial challenges, and develop long-term strategies for success. Through one-on-one financial planning and academic coaching, this position empowers students to make informed decisions about their education, finances, and future career goals. This person will contribute to a culture of support that values exceptional customer service, and high-impact engagement, particularly for first-generation college students and those facing financial barriers. Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, Financial Planning, or a related field from an accredited institution
  • At least two years of post-master’s degree experience working with undergraduate students in academic coaching, advising, financial education, or a similar student-facing role
  • Experience in providing support to first-generation, low-income, and underrepresented students
  • Experience with factors that influence student success, including financial aid, persistence, and academic development
  • Demonstrated ability to lead workshops, groups, or team initiatives that focus on student success, financial education, or retention strategies
  • Proficiency with student information systems (e.g., Starfish, Blackboard, Workday) and client relationship management tools

Nice To Haves

  • At least four years of post-master’s experience in a higher education setting, specifically in academic advising, student success coaching, financial literacy education, or related roles
  • Experience working with financial aid systems, scholarships, or nonprofit foundations
  • Direct experience with first-generation college students, Pell Grant-eligible students, or students in transition to higher education
