About The Position

Overview. We are seeking an experienced Fine Grade Foreman to lead and supervise grading crews on civil construction projects. The Fine Grade Foreman is responsible for achieving precise final grades, coordinating with survey and utility teams, ensuring high-quality site preparation, and maintaining safe and efficient operations. This position requires strong leadership, advanced grading knowledge, and proficiency with grading equipment and instruments.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of fine grading experience in civil construction.
  • Minimum 2 years of supervisory or foreman experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of grading techniques, soil types, compaction, and site preparation.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, cut sheets, and grade data.
  • Proficiency with GPS-guided equipment, lasers, or total stations.
  • Strong leadership, decision-making, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions and perform physical labor as needed.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, coordinate, and assign daily tasks to fine grading crews.
  • Train, mentor, and evaluate crew members to ensure accuracy, safety, and high performance.
  • Communicate daily expectations clearly and ensure crews maintain productivity goals.
  • Maintain a positive and professional work environment.
  • Perform and oversee fine grading using GPS systems, laser-guided equipment, and traditional layout methods.
  • Achieve precise elevations and tolerances for pads, roads, parking lots, curbs, sidewalks, utilities, and drainage structures.
  • Ensure subgrade, base, and final grade meet project specifications and compaction requirements.
  • Troubleshoot grade issues and make field adjustments as necessary.
  • Operate and supervise the operation of dozers, graders, skid steers, rollers, and other grading equipment.
  • Verify proper setup and calibration of GPS, lasers, and grading instruments before use.
  • Report equipment needs, maintenance issues, and repair requirements promptly.
  • Read and interpret civil construction plans, blueprints, grade stakes, and cut‑sheet data.
  • Communicate progress, delays, and resource needs to the Superintendent or Project Manager.
  • Ensure that daily production records, quantities, and reports are completed accurately.
  • Conduct daily safety briefings, enforce PPE requirements, and address hazards immediately.
  • Inspect work areas regularly to ensure compliance with project specifications and quality benchmarks.
  • Correct deficiencies in grade, compaction, drainage, or workmanship promptly.
  • Monitor waste, rework, and inefficiencies to improve productivity.
