Coffman Engineers is seeking an individual who is passionate about their craft, wants to work on a high-functioning team, and looking for an environment that promotes professional growth. The ideal candidate will be a student who wishes to increase their knowledge of commercial, institutional, and industrial structures, learn about computer analysis software systems, and work in a professional fast-paced environment. Your primary focus would be providing our clients with automatic suppression system design; fire detection, alarm and mass notification system design; code analysis; egress analysis; fire resistant construction analysis; smoke control analysis; as well as general fire protection and life safety concepts and research The position is hybrid where the staff are in-person three days a week (minimum) and have the option to work remotely two days a week.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field
  • Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or similar preferred
  • Strong interest in fire protection engineering and life safety systems
  • Ability to communicate clearly in written and verbal formats
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Willingness to learn and take initiative
  • Experience with AutoCAD and/or Revit is a plus, but not required
  • This position is not eligible for sponsorship. No paid interview travel or relocation expenses are offered for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with fire protection and life safety engineering tasks, including:
  • Fire suppression system layouts and calculations
  • Fire detection, alarm, and mass notification system design
  • Life safety and egress analysis
  • Fire-resistant construction and smoke control evaluation and design
  • Assist with site inspections and testing.
  • Performing research related to building and fire codes
  • Assisting with documentation, calculations, and report preparation
  • Utilizing engineering software and tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, spreadsheets, and basic analysis tools
  • Participating in team meetings and learn from project discussions
  • Contributing positively to office culture, collaboration, and team goals
