About The Position

This position plans and provides instruction to students based on state, District, and school curricula and requirements, and based on the students’ social and other formative needs. This position will be part of the Fire Science program expansion into emergency medical services instruction.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to pass a fingerprint and criminal background check.
  • Current Utah Firefighter certifications
  • EMT-B certified
  • Currently employed with a fire department or retired from the fire service
  • Valid Utah Driver’s License and evidence of insurability
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and experienced using data-based software.
  • Speak, read, write, and present professionally, analyze, and interpret English written and verbal communications.
  • Candidate will be required to provide documents to prove these minimum qualifications upon being recommended for hire into the position.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree or bachelor’s degree from an accredited higher education institution. (Official transcripts will be required to be provided upon hire for appropriate title and pay placement.)
  • EMT-A or Paramedic certified (must provide documentation).

Responsibilities

  • Create developmentally and linguistically appropriate and challenging learning experiences.
  • Develop lessons that are accessible and culturally relevant based on individual students' strengths, interest and needs.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the Utah Core Standards and references them in short- and long-term planning.
  • Incorporate disciplinary-specific literacy skills into instruction to purposefully engage learners in interacting with content knowledge.
  • Develop learning experiences that engage and support students as self-directed learners who internalize classroom routines, expectations, and procedures.
  • Collaborate with students to establish a positive learning climate of openness, respectful interactions, support, and inquiry.
  • Utilize positive classroom management strategies, including the resources of time, space, and attention effectively.
  • Base instruction on accurate content knowledge using multiple representations of concepts and appropriate academic language.
  • Practice a range of developmentally and culturally appropriate instructional strategies that engage and meet the needs of individuals and groups of learners.
  • Provide multiple opportunities for students to develop higher-order and meta-cognitive skills.
  • Support and expand English language development and communication skills through reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
  • Use a variety of available and appropriate technology and resources to support learning.
  • Allow students different ways to demonstrate learning sensitive to multiple experiences and diversity, while holding high expectations.
  • Use both formative and summative data sources to assess the effectiveness of instruction and to adjust in planning and instruction.
  • Document student progress and provides descriptive feedback to students, parent and other stakeholders in a variety of ways.
  • Collaborate with families, colleagues and other professional to promote student growth and development.
  • Adapt and improve practice based on reflection and new learning.
  • Engage in learning experiences to enhance self and support others.
  • Participate actively in decision-making processes while building a shared culture that affects the school and larger educational community.
  • Advocate for the learner, the school, the community, and the profession.
  • Is responsible for compliance with federal and state laws, State Board of Education administrative rules, state assessment policies, Salt Lake City School District board policies and supervisory directives.
  • Is responsible for compliance with all requirements of State Board of Education Rule R277-530 Utah Effective Educator Standards at all levels to teacher development.
  • Is responsible for compliance with all requirements of State Board of Education Rule R277-515 Utah Educator Professional Standards.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance to fulfill job requirements in an efficient and effective manner; required to attend activities, events, and meetings outside of normal work hours on a regular basis.
  • Maintain professional workplace etiquette and represents the department/district in a professional manner; communicate effectively and efficiently with diverse groups of people while maintaining confidentiality and positive working relationships with co-workers, students, parents, and other district employees.
  • Demonstrates adaptability and understanding of cultural differences in working in a diverse environment while coping with stressful situations related to students and maintaining confidentiality.
  • Work under limited supervision, utilizing time-management and prioritization strategies, accurately processing detailed information and meeting deadlines.
  • Support a team environment by collaborating with own and other work units to effectively perform the duties of the position.
  • Adapt to changing work priorities and work with frequent interruptions, as required.
  • Speak, read, write, analyze, understand, and follow written and verbal communication in English including grammar and punctuation; listen to, and understand information and ideas presented verbally or in writing.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance to fulfill job requirements efficiently and effectively.
  • As needed, roll, push, pull, bend, reach, stoop, and lift up to 30 pounds.
