About The Position

As an intern firefighter, he/she will have the opportunity to observe and assist in emergency medical care and fire responses. During training exercises, the intern will have more supervised hands on training to ensure they stay within their work scope.This internship will last no longer than six months. Must be able to work three (3) days per week, eight (8) hours/day totaling 24 hours/week.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in Fire Science classes or recently completed a fire academy.
• Must have basic knowledge of Firefighting, theories and concepts in the field and their practical applications to problems and situations ordinarily encountered.
• Current EMT and CPR certificate.
• Must have current CPAT or BIDDLE.
• Must have the ability to provide solutions to routine technical problems.
• Must have the ability to communicate effectively, in both oral and written applications, which successfully supports other firefighters, employees and management.

Responsibilities

• Assists and supports fire and emergency calls under the direction of the duty supervisor and/or incident commander including but not limited to; lay hoses, carry and set up ladders, and use fire equipment.
• Conducts and administers first aid.
• Observes and assists in pre-fire and fire prevention inspections.
• Participates in drills and training activities.
• Other responsibilities and duties as assigned.
