DCWP is seeking an experienced and results-oriented professional to serve as First Deputy Commissioner and join the Executive team to help advance DCWP’s mission. The Executive team consists of the Commissioner, the First Deputy Commissioner, and the Chief of Staff. The First Deputy Commissioner will provide leadership, and operational direction to the heads of five large divisions: Administration (Finance, Human Resources, and General Services); Office of Financial Empowerment; Field Enforcement; Licensing; and the Division of Technology and Strategic Solutions. Additionally, the First Deputy Commissioner will work in close cooperation with all DCWP divisions and other city agencies, as well as partners at other levels of government. Reporting directly to the Commissioner, the ideal candidate will possess strong project management, relationship management, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Serving as DCWP’s Chief Operating Officer.
  • Managing the day-to-day operations of the agency.
  • Providing strategic advice and recommendations to the Executive Team.
  • Overseeing and working collaboratively with the Senior Leadership Team on program management, budgetary issues, procurements, legislative affairs, law implementation, program development, information technology, data management, personnel matters, and all other aspects of operations.
  • Supervising staff effectively to foster teamwork and collaboration, communicating openly about agency priorities, maximizing employee strengths, and supporting strong employee morale.
  • Building and managing relationships among DCWP divisions, and with City agencies, internal and external stakeholders, and representing DCWP in public speaking and media engagements, from public education events to appearing and testifying at City Council hearings.
