About The Position

Queens College is seeking responsible and customer-focused individuals to serve as Fitness Center Attendants within the Department of Athletics and Recreation. This position plays an essential role in maintaining a safe, welcoming, and well-managed fitness environment for students, faculty, staff, and authorized guests. This position requires a strong sense of accountability, attention to detail, and the ability to respond calmly and effectively to unexpected situations. The Facility Coordinator represents the department during all assigned shifts and is expected to provide professional and courteous service at all times.

Requirements

  • High school diploma.
  • One year college experience.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to remain attentive in an active environment are essential.
  • The ideal candidate is dependable, approachable, and able to work independently while maintaining high levels of awareness.
  • The role requires the ability to stand for extended periods, maintain active supervision of the fitness space, and respond quickly in emergency situations.
  • The Fitness Center Attendant represents the department and is expected to provide a positive and professional experience for all facility users.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations at the recreation fitness center, including managing check-ins and verifying eligibility of all patrons entering the facility.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records, enforcing facility policies and procedures, and ensuring that all participants adhere to safety guidelines.
  • Provide general assistance to gym users, answer questions regarding equipment use and facility rules, and maintain a professional presence throughout each shift.
  • Monitor the fitness floor to ensure equipment is being used safely and appropriately.
  • Routinely inspect equipment and promptly report any malfunctions, maintenance concerns, or safety hazards to supervisors.
  • Maintain a clean and organized environment, including light cleaning and re-racking of weights
  • Oversee free hour intramural activities, ensuring games and open recreation periods operate smoothly and safely.
  • Monitor participation, enforce recreation policies, address minor disputes professionally, and escalate concerns when necessary.
