About The Position

The Fleet Maintenance Manager is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and repair operations of our company's fleet of Tractors and Trailers. This position plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our fleet while minimizing downtime and controlling maintenance costs. The Fleet Maintenance Manager will supervise, coach and lead a team of mechanics and technicians, while managing resources, and implementing best practices to maintain the highest standards of fleet maintenance.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 5 years of fleet maintenance experience, including at least 1 year of experience in a supervisory/lead role.
  • Understand equipment electronic systems including in cab cameras.
  • Strong knowledge of automotive and heavy equipment maintenance practices along with trailer refrigeration systems.
  • Proficient in fleet management software and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
  • Utilize and work with up-to-date software programs for managing parts inventory, fuel ordering, warranty repairs, on and off-site repairs and vehicle diagnostics.
  • Proficient with Microsoft programs. (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Budgeting and financial management skills.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and environmental compliance.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Current or ability to obtain a Class A CDL and medical card

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for personnel leadership of the fleet shop including hiring, firing, coaching, performance feedback, employee discipline, etc.
  • Manage the flow of work and set performance expectations.
  • Monitor expenses, control costs, and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Manage in house fuel purchasing all while monitoring and controlling fuel costs.
  • Develop, manage and report the fleet maintenance budget to District Manager.
  • Create and produce period end reports for all shop expenses.
  • Oversee diagnostics, troubleshooting, and complex repairs.
  • Ensure all vehicles and equipment are serviced in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Conduct inspections and quality checks to ensure work meets company standards.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date maintenance records, including service history and repair logs.
  • Manage and optimize resources, including personnel, tools, and equipment.
  • Maintain an inventory of parts, supplies, and equipment necessary for repairs.
  • Manage relationships with vendors and suppliers to ensure timely parts procurement.
  • Foster a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement within the shop.
  • Ensure that all maintenance activities adhere to safety standards and regulations.
  • Monitor and enforce compliance with environmental, safety, and OSHA regulations.
  • Conduct safety trainings for maintenance personnel along with quarterly shop meetings.
  • Maintain a tire management program to make sure all equipment is in compliance.
  • Collaborate and work with the transportation manager on equipment needs.
  • Work varying shifts, days, swing, graveyard, weekends and holidays.
  • Travel as required to meet business needs.
