About The Position

The Bryan County Board of Commissioners is now accepting applications for a Full Time Fleet Maintenance Superintendent in the Public Works Department. This position is to supervise and participate in the repair and maintenance of County vehicles, equipment, and machinery. The following duties are normal for this position.  These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive.   Other duties may be required and assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; additional vocational training preferred
  • Three years of progressively responsible experience in repair/maintenance of light and heavy equipment and automotive engines or a related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License.

  • Supervisory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises, directs and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining and completing employee performance appraisals.
  • Supervises shop activities and operations; organizes departmental workload; monitors status of work in progress, and inspects completed work; monitors work safety factors to ensure crew safety.
  • Directs and participates in general mechanical overhaul and repair work on light and heavy equipment, vehicles, emergency vehicles, tractors, trailers, and other machinery.
  • Oversee and assists with various maintenance work, which includes, replacing rings, bearings and universal joints; repairs transmissions and differentials; repairing/replacing clutches; rebuilds starters, generators, and carburetors; relining brakes; balancing and aligning tires; and other related tasks.
  • Supervises and performs routine and preventative maintenance on vehicles, which includes changing tires, checking fluid levels, changing oil and filters, replacing hoses, tuning engines, and other similar tasks.
  • Develops and administers departmental budget; monitors expenditures and approves purchases and requisitions to ensure proper use of funds.
  • Plans service schedules for equipment, prepares work orders, and orders necessary parts; makes emergency service calls for inoperative vehicles.
  • Tests machinery, equipment, and parts for proper operation; maintains vehicles service records, warranty records, and other related files.
  • Prepares and/or receives various forms, reports or other documents; processes and forwards as appropriate.
  • Punctuality and attendance are essential.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
