About The Position

The Fleet Services Supervisor oversees operation and staff engaged in the servicing and distribution of vehicles and other equipment. The incumbent will provide direction and technical assistance, including diagnosing problems and troubleshooting.

Requirements

  • Formal trade school or an associate’s degree in automotive, diesel or engineering program or a related field preferred.
  • Two (2) or more years of professional warehouse and/or logistics experience preferred; union environment experience preferred.
  • Valid Indiana Driver’s License is required.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of vehicle operations and service; this includes knowledge related to preventative maintenance, related safety guidelines/parameters, and vehicle operational systems.
  • Operational knowledge of mandated safety principles related to personal protective equipment, chemical hazards, lockout/tag out and general shop safety and cleanliness practices.
  • Knowledge of safety precaution related to the work; including methods of lifting and moving heavy objects with proper equipment.
  • Ability to process and analyze data, analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions and implementing recommendations.
  • Proficient in using a computer and related technology, including proficiency with Microsoft Office, the internet, software applications, and complex spreadsheets and databases.
  • Ability to operate laptops, tablets and two-way communication devices, office equipment, including copiers, fax machines and phones; including basic troubleshooting techniques.
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and manage tasks and time effectively.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with others and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Proficient mathematical abilities (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, ratios, and fractions).
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet time-sensitive deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently with work checked on a regular basis.
  • Ability to move throughout the facility to oversee operations, with periods of stationary work for administrative tasks.
  • Ability to perceive visual information necessary to recognize and respond to safety hazards and distinguish colors to identify vehicle fluids.
  • Requires some exposure to heavy machinery/equipment, excessive noise, extreme temperatures, fumes/odors, some hazardous materials, and dirt/dust.
  • Position may require flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings and weekends, to provide supervisory coverage for near 24/7 operations.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direction and leadership for all vehicle and equipment fueling, charging, and cleaning services; manages an efficient workflow and verifies units have been properly serviced to maintain safe and efficient operation of the service lines.
  • Supervises the bus bill out/distribution processes and Motor Pool process.
  • Ensures that fueling and cleaning of rolling stock and equipment are accomplished in a timely and thorough manner.
  • Enforces departmental policies, and Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) including policies related to work schedules and assigning personnel to effectively carry out required work.
  • Completes relevant paperwork and reports timely and accurately; this includes ensuring that all service actions and bus assignments (bus cleaning, fueling, charging, and garage assignments and special assignments, etc.) are properly documented on paper and/or in the appropriate computer system(s).
  • Creates and closes work orders as appropriate.
  • Communicates effectively via email and related software system(s), all documentation, write-ups relevant to defects and/or repairs needed to Fleet Services Department peers and management throughout entire shift.
  • Prioritizes work and deal with conflicting workload requirements
  • Ability to react with appropriate levels of urgency to situations and events that require quick response or turnaround.
  • Performs administrative support including time keeping, vacation and leave tracking.
  • Supports other areas within Fleet Services Department on various projects.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
  • Directly supervises one or more employees.
  • Applies supervisory responsibilities according to organizational policies, collective bargaining agreement and applicable laws.
  • Interviews, hires, and trains employees; plans, schedules, assigns, and directs work according to the current collective bargaining agreement; evaluates and manages employee performance; addresses complaints and resolves employee issues. Perform coaching, counseling and progressive discipline as needed including thorough and timely documentation.
