About The Position

Qualified candidates may be eligible for a sign-on incentive of $10,000 based on years of experience! The AirCare program is hiring for the AirCare 4 base in Davenport, Iowa! AirCare 4 will support AirCare’s high level of compassionate, emergency, and critical care services to referring hospitals, public safety agencies and the community. AirCare maintains a highly experienced medical staff, incorporating the latest technology in aviation, medical equipment, pharmacology, and engaging in regular continuing education. AirCare can rapidly and safely transport high risk and complex patients. As one of the first of 15 programs in the nation, AirCare was the state's first air ambulance in 1979, and the 11th in the nation. Total flight volume for the entire program includes scene responses and inter-facility transports. In 2014, AirCare became the first air medical service based in Iowa to be CAMTS accredited. The University of Iowa transports critically ill neonatal and pediatric patients using AirCare as well as our MobileCare ground transport vehicles. These special patients are cared for by our Neonatal/Pediatric Transport Team. Our helicopters and specialty transport ground ambulances rapidly transport critically ill and severely injured patients, delivering medical care en route with an emphasis on support of high-risk patient populations, including multi-system trauma victims, neonates, pediatric patients, and patients suffering from time-sensitive or complex medical conditions. UI Health Care is seeking a welcoming, highly skilled and collaborative workforce to be a part of this superb AirCare base, and to help further our mission of: Changing Medicine. Changing Lives. The University of Iowa Health Care Department of Emergency Medicine is seeking a part-time (90%) Flight Paramedic for the AirCare program's AC 4 base to assess patients' nursing care needs, evaluate effectiveness of care provided, and integrate nursing theory and research into clinical practice. All flights are operated by Air Methods Corporation.

Requirements

  • An Associate’s Degree in Nursing, a Diploma in Nursing, a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, Professional Masters of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP), MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader or a Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA) is required.
  • Minimum of 3 years providing direct nursing care in ICU or Emergency Department.
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills with patients/families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members as demonstrated through written and verbal interactions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • General computer skills are required.
  • Current license to practice nursing in Iowa required by date of hire.
  • Ability to obtain Illinois nursing license within six (6) months of hire.
  • CCRN, CFRN, or CEN certification required within two (2) years of hire.
  • NRP, PALS, ACLS, and BCLS certification or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or Masters Degree in Nursing preferred.
  • Current or previous Flight Nurse experience.
  • If Baccalaureate degree in Nursing is not yet obtained, active enrollment in a BSN program.
  • Previous experience providing neonate transport direct nursing care.
  • Previous experience providing direct nursing care on an inpatient unit or recent completion of a nursing inpatient internship.
  • Knowledge of university policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Applies nursing theory to the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patient responses to health and illness.
  • Assesses patient health care preferences and expectations.
  • Collaboratively coordinates the continuum of care across settings.
  • Develops patient care plan based on patient condition, age, and psychological, educational, and socioeconomic conditions that prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes.
  • Implements patient care plan according to patient priorities, which includes interventions identified through nursing diagnoses.
  • Documents/reports interventions and patient/family response.
  • Collaborates and integrates contributions of patients and families into multidisciplinary patient care plan.
  • Develops, coordinates and implements transfer/discharge planning throughout episode of care.
  • Implements nursing interventions according to department, division, and/or unit policies, procedures, and protocols to maintain safe environment for patients, visitors and staff.
  • Follows universal precautions.
  • Implements emergency care procedures in potential or actual emergencies according to departmental policies, procedures and protocols.
  • Maintains skills/competency related to special equipment, medications, and procedures common to the patient population of the unit/division.
  • Utilizes, adheres and supports departmental standards and practice guidelines.
