About The Position

The Clinic RN works closely with providers and medical assistants within our clinic to provide high quality compassionate patient care. This position must be consistent and competent in the standards of registered nurse practice following the rules, policies, and procedures developed by Whitman Hospital and Medical Clinics within their scope of practice and following the rules and regulations of the State of Washington.

Requirements

  • Licensed as an RN in the State of Washington.
  • AHA BLS CPR certified and maintained while employed.
  • Familiarity of information systems functionality including access, reports and system controls.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
  • One to three years previous clinic experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally.

Responsibilities

  • Triages patients based on observations and available information to coordinate scheduling of same day appointments.
  • Coordinates the needs of the patient with support from the clinic and assists in solving problems related to the welfare of the patient.
  • Reviews incoming patient prescription/lab/imaging requests, reviews patient history and assists in preparing prescription refill/lab order/imaging order for provider review.
  • Coordinates prior authorizations.
  • Assists providers with patient education that pertain to their ongoing care: o Normal laboratory and x-ray reports after provider review o Laboratory, radiology, or procedural preparations o Other recommendations pertaining to patient’s reported signs/symptoms.
  • Assists with the timely and appropriate coordination of care for Clinic Obstetric (OB) roster of patients. o Performs initial OB intake with patient for information gathering and patient education. o Monitor database of OB patients for ongoing care.
  • Follows established procedures for rooming patients and prepares for provider exam.
  • Assists provider with patient care as delegated.
  • Documents data collected during the patient care process.
  • Carries out post visit duties including provide patient instructions per provider orders, ensure all patient questions are answered.
  • Administers injections and medications as allowed by license.
  • Performs aseptic and sterile procedures as allowed by license.
  • Assist provider with sterile procedures.
  • Assess wounds, remove sutures, cleans, and apply dressings to wounds as directed.
  • Assists Director and Manager of Provider Support with quality and/or process improvement initiatives to help streamline clinic operations.
  • Travels between other departments and all primary care clinic locations as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Verifies patient medical records for completeness obtaining any missing chart information.
  • Follows standards for accurate chart documentation.
  • Utilizes all practical opportunities to educate the patient and their families.
  • Assesses patient’s understanding of health care teaching.
  • Participates in preparing patients for clinic appointments.
  • Ensures patient flow is smooth and efficient.
  • Fulfills organizational responsibilities as assigned including respecting/promoting patient rights and sharing problems relating to patients and /or staff with immediate supervisor.
  • Maintains strictest confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA compliance and WHMC confidentiality and security of information policy and procedure.
  • Attends and participates in staff and departmental meetings.
  • Travels between other departments and clinics as required.
