Beyond Flooring is seeking a skilled and detail-focused Floor Sanding and Refinishing Technician to join our growing team. This role is responsible for sanding, repairing, staining, and refinishing wood floors to bring them back to life and leave clients with results they can be proud of. The right person is experienced with hardwood flooring, committed to quality workmanship, and confident in the safe use of sanding tools, equipment, and finishing materials.

Requirements

  • Proven experience (2+ years preferred) in hardwood floor sanding and refinishing.
  • Knowledge of different wood species and appropriate finishing techniques.
  • Ability to operate and maintain sanding and buffing equipment.
  • Basic repair skills for minor floor damage.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to lift and maneuver heavy equipment and materials ranging from roughly 50 - 75 lbs.
  • Time management and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Customer service skills and professionalism on-site.
  • Knowledge of workplace safety procedures and handling of chemicals and dust.
  • Class 5 BC Driver's license
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to Work in Canada

Responsibilities

  • Prepare wood floors and work areas for sanding by removing furniture, debris, and old finishes as needed
  • Assess flooring conditions and recommend the best refinishing or repair approach
  • Operate floor sanding machines, edge sanders, buffers, and other tools safely and efficiently
  • Sand, stain, seal, and refinish wood floors using proper techniques and manufacturer guidelines
  • Repair minor floor damage, including scratches, cracks, dents, gaps, replacing boards, and smoothing imperfections
  • Apply stains, sealants, and finish coats evenly to achieve a clean, high-quality result
  • Inspect flooring before, during, and after work to ensure workmanship meets quality standards
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean, safe, and organized condition
  • Follow safety procedures, including proper ventilation, PPE use, and safe handling of finishing products
  • Communicate with clients and team members about project progress, timelines, process, and aftercare instructions
  • Clean up job sites and dispose of materials properly at the end of each project
